Swim
Comments: Took a little while to warm up. The wave took off away from me, which was fine. I had to lose some time to get out of the way of the second wave at the first turn buoy, but that was fine. Got into a rhythm on the back straightaway, and then made the turn. Finished at the same time as Nancy which meant I was only 8 minutes slower than her. Not bad. What would you do differently?: I need to figure out bi-lateral breathing and sighting. Once I was warmed up, those things impacted my stroke the most. Transition 1
Comments: No chips, so no transition times (bummer). Felt like a good transition. Found my lost gels in my bike shoe. Bike
Comments: I need to get my big ring derailleur looked at. I didn't jump a chain but my shifts from small to big were verrrrrryyyyy careful. I caught it once trying to slip off. The hammer gel (2x caffeine) is great for leaving transition and going on the bike. Great energy. Really went all out -- wasn't holding back for the run at all. More time spent in the drops definitely helped my downhill speed. What would you do differently?: Gotta get the crank fixed. I think I lost some time to drinking that I could have focused on more. It's a RACE... Transition 2
Comments: No T2 time. Run
Comments: Didn't take any water. Ran the entire time. Kept HR in the 145 range for much of the run. At about 2.5 miles I decided to pick it up a notch and kept my HR in the 153-155 area. What would you do differently?: Probably keep my HR in the 155 zone once I got over the bonk from the bike. Post race
Event comments: This is a great race. It's got a distinctly Maine feel to it. Kinda like "Hey, let's all meet up in the field next to the lake and run a Tri!" There's not a commercial feel to it at all, it's a bunch of nice people racing against themselves. It's on my list for next year already. Last updated: 2010-07-27 12:00 AM

Ridiculously bad pre-race. We were staying at a friend's house in Maine. I got there at about 1:00am the day of the race, got 5 hours of sleep, woke up and got into pre-race. Ate a bowl of cereal and a banana.
No real chance to warm-up for the swim, which bums me out. I did my whoel body in the water for a few minutes to get used to the temp to avoid the gasps at the start.
