Run
Post race
Event comments: THIS IS THE LETTER I SENT THE RACE DIRECTOR. Dear Sir or Madame: Let me start by saying I love the city of Cleveland and the people were as nice as anywhere in the world. The race was amazing up until mile 12-13. The marathon seems like an afterthought. When you publish 19,000 runners that figure is completely misleading. The race may be better as a half marathon. That being said, I could have overcome the weak marathon numbers in the marathon and expo in an abandoned Kmart. The final straw was the complete failure to have the proper finish. I have run many races at multiple distances and 2 other marathons. I cannot believe the lack of planning. I ran 26.2 miles in fog, rain, wind, and cold. I was expecting a proper finishing area. It was severely lacking. I could not believe that there was not a Mylar blanket. I am sure you knew the weather conditions. It was 50 degrees and raining. I proceeded to walk shivering to the massage tent. They were packing up. I could not get a post race massage that was published in your marketing and promotions. I am never going to be a sub 4:00 hour marathoner, so your race may not feel that I deserve those comforts. However, I do know this, it is sad that the great race experience was ruined not by the race but your lack of properly planning a marathons finish line. My only hope is that this letter helps make changes so the next person who travels from Florida does not have the same experience. Now to find out the about the metal issue you should have someone run the MARINE CORP MARATHON to see how to run a race. Sincerely, John T Simon Last updated: 2011-05-16 12:00 AM
