Pre-race routine:

Got there nice and early (picked up the packet the day before). Relaxed. Unfortunately no family could be there because of conflicts so I mainly just calmed myself.
Event warmup:

did a ride for about 4 miles out past a strange mandatory dismount to see what that was all about. Then stretched out the legs with a mile run or so
Swim
  • 08m 3s
  • 547 yards
  • 01m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

Submitted my 500 yard time as 8 minutes and I was 71st, my time was 8:03 and I was 30th. Too many people put in fast times and I passed 5 people even with 15 sec. intervals. Overall I was happy with the swim
What would you do differently?:

Faster entry time to put me with faster swimmers
Transition 1
  • 01m 37s
Comments:

Took it slow since it was the first race I did with the biking shoes. I practiced with them on the bike and they didn't work out as well so I put them on then got on the bike. Definitely slowed me down but it was smoother than I thought it would be.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more with shoes already on the pedals
Bike
  • 39m 6s
  • 13 miles
  • 19.95 mile/hr
Comments:

I was thrilled with the results!!! My goal was 20mph average, which I actually got since there was a 200 foot mandatory dismount. I am positive it took me longer than 6 seconds. Very happy with the bike portion, and very surprised I met my goal.
What would you do differently?:

Drink a little more, work more with the shoes.
Transition 2
  • 01m 37s
Comments:

A bit too slow, I was surprised because it definitely didn't seem that long.
What would you do differently?:

FASTER!!
Run
  • 23m 18s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

Slower than I wanted, but I passed people, nobody passed me. At this point I was happy to be finishing
What would you do differently?:

Run hard earlier
Post race
Warm down:

I had to leave right away to get to Columbia for an event the organization I am President of.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Endurance, especially on the bike. I need to work those legs!!!

Event comments:

Great race to start the season off with!
