Pre-race routine:

Oatmeal with brown sugar, flaxseed, honey. Cup of coffee. Half a banana. 1 liter of water
Event warmup:

Not much. Too nervous to think about warming up.
Swim
  • 15h 00m
  • 800 yards
  • 1h 52m 30s / 100 yards
Comments:

Not a choppy as the day before when the waves were white capping, but once we got out of beach area, swells were more than I was use to. Terrible at timing breathing in conjunction with waves. Had to doggy paddle a lot just to catch breath. Also lost my timing chip in the swim so I have no idea what my times were, which is really a bummer, but a lot of people ended up losing theirs from what the wife said.
What would you do differently?:

I would train a LOT more in our local lake and try and get a good feel for swimming in waves and dealing with the wind. Buy my own timing chip which actually fits a grown man's ankle.

Bike
  • 00m
  • 16.1 miles
  • 0.00 mile/hr
Comments:

Tried to make up time on the bike due to the poor performance of the swim and really felt good out there. Was passing people fairly regularly and really feel like it is the strongest aspect of my game.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure the batteries in computer are not dead. Don't have a clue what progress I was making because of dead computer.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 00m
  • 3.11 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

Felt pretty good coming off the bike and just tried to keep a 10min pace which I think I did. Started to cramp up about 2 mile mark and had to stop in order to work out a contracted quad. When I saw the finish line I got a little emotional. This was a great goal to set and accomplish. Feel good about it. Just need to train with drinking water on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swimming, swimming, swimming. Not very strong on the swim. Need to work up swim endurance.

Event comments:

Really great race put on by the Dallas Athlete's Association. Well organized and would do it again in a heart beat. Having the Texas Parks Department host was also a nice touch as it generated income for the Parks Department.
