Total Time = 57m 27s
Overall Rank = 49/468
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 9/49
Pre-race routine:

Up early, peanut butter on toast with a banana. Drink some diet powerade.

Picked up my race bag, put the bike on the car and traveled from North West Houston to Sugar Land. Body markings were quick, racked the bike, set up transition area as tidy as possible. Got my bearings in transition to ensure that i knew where to go when entering/exiting transition.

After the National Anthem it was time to clear transition and line up at the pool in order of seed (race number)
Event warmup:

I do not usually jump in the pool for a swim warm up and this was no exception
Swim
  • 06m 54s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m 18s / 100 meters
Comments:

Pool swim where you did two lengths per lane before clambering under the rope and repeating. I caught someone on the first length then another couple of the 2nd length. Overall i think i passed around 5-10 people.

Quite happy with the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe tumble turns? Also, rather than clambering under the rope when changing lanes i may just kick off the wall and go under the rope on my push off.
Transition 1
  • 00m 55s
Comments:

I felt that this was quick, i was 35th overall for this transition and that was without a flying mount on the bike. I think i could be faster though
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Quite happy
Bike
  • 25m 41s
  • 10 miles
  • 23.61 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike computer failed again, i had no idea what my speed was but i was able to see cadence so i had to work based off of cadence only. Pushed hard and got a pleasant surprise on my time. There were a couple of tiny little elevation increases, but i didn't see them until the last minute and my cadence had already taken a beating
What would you do differently?:

Get the computer fixed. Two races this has killed me on.
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

Ranked 78th. Not a bad T2. Not sure why i was slow when i thought i was going real fast, maybe the location of the bike in transition?
What would you do differently?:

Shoes off on bike, run barefoot with bike, save a few extra seconds?
Run
  • 22m 55s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

I left the Garmin on the bike so i had no idea how my times were looking at this point. I stupidly believed that as i was passing people i was going fast, sadly no......Run felt good, i think i had more in me but stupidly didn't use it. This was a sprint tri so why was i not sprinting?
What would you do differently?:

Run faster, remember Garmin?
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around, eat a banana, drink some Gatorade recovery.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not knowing how fast i was running was an issue. Everything else fell into place though. I was quite happy with this tri.

Event comments:

Great race, well organized and always a great turn out. I like this one because it is held twice a year and you get a chance to see how you are improving your run and bike over the race season.

This is also the first race that we have stayed around to the very end to watch the awards and prize giveaways. A friend placed in the 40-44 age group so it was cool to see him getting his plaque.
