Pre-race routine:

got up about 5:00am had a bagel with egg and cheese and ham. I had over 3 hours before race so I figured I had enough time to let it digest. I had a 1.75 hr drive to get to Appleton. We arrived 1 to 1.5 hrs early and there were a lot of people there already. It took a bit to figure out how to get our packets, but we did. got my time chip and body marked and got set up in transition.
Event warmup:

I didn't really warm up much, but I probably should have. We had a long walk from the car to the event.
Run
  • 32m 36s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

I ran the entire course - a 10.5 minute pace is pretty good for me.
What would you do differently?:

This is my second race, I guess I wouldn't change anything right now.
Transition 1
  • 01m 47s
Comments:

I had a hard time getting my left shoe on, so that kind of set me back a bit.
What would you do differently?:

Practice doing transitions and remember to undo the straps on my bike shoes before the race.
Bike
  • 1h 18m 39s
  • 22 miles
  • 16.78 mile/hr
Comments:

A couple miles out there was a guy laying on the ground being cared for by EMT. That kind of freaked me out - I hope the guy was all right. I'm definitely glad I had the bike long enough to do some training with the aero bars before the race. I felt comfortable with them. There were winds gusts up to 20 mph at time which made it quite interesting in the cross winds.
What would you do differently?:

I was pretty happy with my overall performance, considering it was my first race with this bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

I felt I did ok with this transition
Run
  • 39m 26s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 12m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

Considering this was the first time I did a back to back 5k I felt I didn't do all bad. I did have to resort to walking up the hills and running down the hills. The big hill on the turn around was a killer this second time.
What would you do differently?:

Train more.
Post race
Warm down:

I didn't have one. We had to get our stuff out of transition right away and then we had to head out.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not being in the best of shape. I need to be more consistent with my training.

Event comments:

I would definitely do this one again. Now that I have this one done I have something to build on for next year.
