Pre-race routine:

Got up from where I was camping, ate some watermelon, followed by icy cold oatmeal. Sleep would have been nice, but the tree roots my brother and I camped on thought otherwise... Next time I'll just drive from Luray. Got to the event two hours early.
Event warmup:

I ran a couple miles, then biked a mile. I did some leg stretches, and some push ups, then it was off to the water. I was amazed to see people just arriving, putting their bikes together with 10-15 minutes to race time.
Swim
  • 15m 45s
  • 750 yards
  • 02m 06s / 100 yards
Comments:

I did awesome in the water! Much better than my 24 minute Luray swim. I was dying for air the first 1/4 mile, but then I was warmed up, and good to go.
What would you do differently?:

Keep better track of where I am going. I lost around a minute by getting way away from the group several times.
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

Pretty speedy here.
What would you do differently?:

Spray pam on my wetsuit AFTER the swim.
Bike
  • 35m 33s
  • 20 kms
  • 33.76 km/hr
Comments:

I lost my bike computer about 5 miles out, so I just noted the area and kept going. Luckily I found it after the race! I kept passing and being passed by some guy with a tattoo on his leg, finally I passed him for good near the end of the course.
What would you do differently?:

Kick more ass.
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

Even more speedy! I hauled ass here, the cheering crowds were a great motivator.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 21m 30s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

This was really fun, and VERY crowded. Seriously, there were 2 lanes of run traffic, and each of these had people passing, and then a bike lane! I kept pace with someone that was about to pass me, so I could force myself to go a little faster. I lost him at the half way point, and slowly tracked down a guy who had flown past me. My bro has video of him trying to re-pass me right at the finish line(he didn't), almost a photo finish :)
What would you do differently?:

My run went great, I need to do more run training though.
Post race
Warm down:

This consisted of me walking back and forth between my vehicle and bike rack. Oh, and there was beer.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of hills. I love me some hills.

Event comments:

The race was really fun, too bad they didn't give away a wetsuit... I will be racing this course twice next year. I'll post some pics, and a vid or two below.
