Age Group Rank = 27/44
Pre-race routine:

Didn't sleep very well due to nerves but I didn't feel as though it hindered me. Ate 2 Clif bars between waking up and race start. Swam a few meters prior to start to
Event warmup:

Swam a few meters prior to start
Swim
  • 20m 8s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 40s / 100 meters
Comments:

I was fairly uncomfortable in the water the entire time. The only thing that went well was my placement at the start as I didn't have to deal with the crowd. I started to get discourged when the next wave caught up to me but I had to tell myself that it didn't matter how I did in relation to others but that I finished it. Navagation wasn't to bad but I could have done a lot better.
What would you do differently?:

Need learn how to swim better to at least shave 5 mins off.
Transition 1
  • 02m 35s
Comments:

What really slowed me down here was having to put my shirt on, and having to dry off enough to get socks and my shoes on. The wetsuit was no problem to get off and my feet weren't too dirty so I didn't have to rinse them off like I had planned. I also lost a few seconds trying to find my rack.
What would you do differently?:

Use a tri top and try to do the bike shoes on the bike thing when I move to clipless pedals.
Bike
  • 40m 41s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.33 mile/hr
Comments:

Considering I was using my MTB with slicks I think I did very good. I had a PB on the pace and broke 18 mph for the first time. I even passed several people that were on much better bikes than mine. I think that the rolling hills helped my speed more than hurt it. The gel I took didn't sit well but didn't hurt me till the run.
What would you do differently?:

GET A TRI BIKE!!!! (Which will be happening this week!!)
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

T2 was fast and it helped that I didn't have to change shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 23m 45s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

The first half was rough in that I felt like I was going to throwup. I think it was ether the gels I took or the Gatorade I drank on the bike. But I was able to pick up my pace on the second half to get what I consider to be a decent time
What would you do differently?:

Do more bricks during training and be more careful with hydration and nutrition.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and drank some water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not being able to swim, My bike being a MTB, and not watching nutrition.

Event comments:

Set-up Events put on a good race. I will definetly try to race with them next year.
