Pre-race routine:

M-daddy and I drove up together Saturday through the driving rain. It poured. Oh there was thunder and lightning very, very frightning. We both wondered if the race would be on or not. Got to the campsite around 1-2 pm. met up with Kam and Rob and the kids. Sat in their semi new trailer. Got a break in the rain to setup the tent. Relaxed and then drove down to registration to packet pickup. Had the carbo load dinner huddle in the pavilion. Checked out transition area and race site.
Event warmup:

Not much of anything. Couple little sprint at the start of the swim.
Swim
  • 32m 31s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started up front to the left. Out fast to get some breathing room till 3/4 out the first leg. Started to catch wave ahead.
Could not stay on the buoy line. OK so this year no orange caps. Great. Just had to sort out the girl in the yellow rain coat in the Kayak.
Rounded buoy and hit a lot of the wave ahead of that. Had a little difficulty getting through that. Nice not have to sight into the sun. Hit shore well and into transition.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. I felt good and was not as tired as last year. I have to remember that there is generally aid station ofter swim. Always throws me Water? gatorade? What? I just stood up and am really dizzy how about some dramanine?

Comments:

Well I did better but know where I fell down (not literally). I felt good pretty much ready to hammer down. I did for the first 20 miles I was trading places with other bikers. Yes I go downhill well. At about mile 20-25 my hips started to ache, then hurt. I could stand and relieve it a little but it didn't last long. I did have 4 advil with me and fumbled to take them. It started to take the edge off it. It was killing me to get up hills. I geared way down right at the start of the hill. There was a little tail wind going back and I was having trouble taking advantage of it. I passed Mike going the out still about a mile from the turnaround. Good he was still chasing me. I was trying to get far enough ahead in the swim to beat him that far. He gently pilled up to me at mile 50. He was doing well. He was doing well we chatted for 1/2 mile or so. He took off a little going up hill and I finished while he was still in transition. I think he has some nice shots of me changing into run shorts. The pain ended as soon as I got off the bike and the only thing hurting was my butt.
What would you do differently?:

I kinda gotta believe that something on the bike got knocke out of whack. Liek the seat dropped a little or something. Do a few more long rides.
Transition 2
  • 07m 8s
Comments:

Changed into shorts by wrapping a towel, a big one, to change into run shorts. Grabbed a couple more advil. Mike was waiting for me. I told take off I still had to pee. He did.
What would you do differently?:

Move a little faster.
Run
  • 2h 30m 46s

Comments:

OMG! This year the leg pain was nill. The back pain was the trouble.I ran well for me after the swim/bike thing. Ran/walked when I felt like it. Mostly ran down hill and walked up hill. That's the way the back felt best. I wanted to finish better then last year but, most of all with out the dehydration of last year. I did finish feeling well.
-Mile 6 chatty lady of Nor'Ester Team. Nice to run with. Even told me to tell her to shut if it was too much. Really kinda nice. for a 1/2 mile
-Mile 7.5 talking to another girl. She ran up the hill backwards. Told she look good either way she was running.
-Mile 9 Nice old couple adhock rest stop. Wanted some of their pizza really.
-Mile 10 Girl working cramp out of calf. She kept talking in my right ear. Sounded realy just like Mike. Mouth moving nothing coming out.
-Mile 11 MIKE! Talking of course, nothing stops that. He was walking and was looking kinda poorly. Origanally I thought Oh good I can beat him to the line. Then I figure since he was driving home I better help a little. (He didn't drive back to the campsite). He was having some trouble with oh bodily functions like thinking and stuff of that nature. We decided to run in together. Did a few short walk runs and got to the top of the last hill. He stopped for aminute to stretch or reat of something. The cop asked if he was OK and he replied yes we would run all the way to the line because he had no more starts in him. With that the RD, her assistant, group of runner and the cop shoed us along and Mike was moving again. We made it to the finish line together and crossed. I took my shoes off and Mike sat on the back of the ambulance. Maybe he should have been in it. HE keeps telling me he brought me in I just tell him at anytime I could have had him pulled off the course. HE just says "Yes Dud".

I'll let Mike tell you more about the aftermat.
What would you do differently?:

More bricks. Fit bike and measure it.
Post race
Warm down:

Watched Mike throw up. Drive him home and watch him throw up more, while I ate my chicken dinner.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hip and back ache.

Event comments:

The first thing I wanted from this race was to enjoy it. I wanted to finish with a smile and not slogging. I was not slogging for sure. Although I did hurt on the bike the pain left for the run and I enjoyed it. The swim was as usual. Good. Out 3 places faster 51/608. Bike slower and run the same. T1 was a speedy one for me, T2 slow but a girl has to change ya know.

I like this venue. The volunteers are great! Most the crowd is great. I did get one dirty look for a guy who passed me at mile thirty on the bike with a face like how the hell did you get out this far. Fins buddy fins. Love the camp grounds Kam. Thanks for dinner and coffee. Ready to sign up for next year?

They have asked for a lot feed back to update the race.

Hey they go the finishing metals right.
