Sunny
Total Time = 1h 08m
Overall Rank = 42/227
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 11/35
Pre-race routine:

Weather was very cold. Sun was not up. Very windy conditions. I was very nervous about the water temp. As it turns out it the water was actually pretty nice. It was more comfortable than the air.
Event warmup:

Minimal due to weather conditions.
Swim
  • 07m 30s
  • 547 yards
  • 01m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was very tough rounding the 1st buoy as it was right into the sun. I was wearing blue googles which made it very difficult to see. I finally slowed up to verify location and I was right next to 1st turn buoy. AFter that the swim visual was normal; however it was very crowded it seemed as if I was on feet getting passed and then swimming over people. Overall swim effort was good however I never felt as if I got in my rhythmn. I need to get lined up on the outside and get solid position from the outset. This time postion was on the inside and got stuck in the crowd. I was late getting in the water due to fear of the tempature.
What would you do differently?:

Get postioned on outside and start out and break away from the pack.
Transition 1
  • 03m 1s
Comments:

I got into the bike fairly well. I think it helped that a loosened my cleat tension. I was very pleased with this. I rode with no shirt which I was in debate about given the air temp and wind, but it worked out very well; as i was not too cold.
Bike
  • 32m 27s
  • 10 miles
  • 18.49 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt a little naseous on the bike. I never seemed to catch my rhythmn. I felt like I was going hard and then recover as opposed to going moderatly hard consistently throughout. I felt I didnt get passed as much, but there defineltly was some folks that blew by me.
What would you do differently?:

Catch my rhythmn. Need to train more on the bike with intervals and such. I need to get used to pain on the bike as opposed to recovery.
Transition 2
  • 01m 27s
Comments:

Transition actually felt pretty good. the longest part was tying my shoes (double knotting). I need to spend 2 dollars and get the pull strings.
What would you do differently?:

Come in more agressively of the bike.
Run
  • 23m 33s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

I didnt drink at all. I was chasing some relay girl for the 1st 2k or so. She was moving at a decent clip. I Passed her and kept plugging away. My breathing was terrible. I need to work on that. Got passed by one or two age group competitors but there was no way I could have hung they were jamming. I was very suprised to see my time of 7.33 pace as I was expecting 8.00 or so. So i felt really excited as to how far the run has progessed in a years time.
Post race
Warm down:

Minimal with walk.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of rhythmn on the bike.

Event comments:

Very well organized race. Very nice consistent course.
