  • Comments: Ironman Barcelona is a great race for all ability levels. I think the field was roughly 50% first time Ironman athletes. Calella and Barcelona are very hospitable to the athletes and the race. It's a great event to put on your calendar if you would like to race in Europe.

  • Comments: The venue is really cool for spectators. Better than CdA by a long shot, which I already consider a good spectator race. The thing is, in Calella the beach access is so easy. It's all like this: That road and railroad you see... have tunnels going underneath. So everyone can walk to the beach while the race is going on without waiting for crossings. The beach itself is wide and has restaurants along its length. This is just a great place for a race and I'm glad I got a chance to participate. I had also signed up for CdA this year and decided at the last minute not to start, due to the heat wave. So I was really keeping my fingers crossed for a good race here. The weather was perfect and it was a big PR for me, on my 8th IM finish.

  • Comments: Everything was great, except for two issues: 1. Drafting on the bike: Either they fix the bike course (longer vs. 2.5 loops) or enforce drafting penalties. This issue bothered me enough to not want to race this race again. 2. Post-race access to family members: All post-race activities were great, but I couldn't access my family until I was done with medical, food, massage, getting my clothes, etc. I would've like to be able to chat or even see them to let them know that I was ok and then proceed to do all the stuff I had to do.

  • Comments: I recommend this race. October is a perfect time to end the season. The Spanish people are fantastic all along the bike and marathon routes. Very motivating ...

  • Comments: Well organized race... I was expecting the worst after competing in the Half Ironman her in May, but they really got there act together this year. Not sure if I'm up for another Ironman, but if so, I will be doing this one again!
