Subject: Newbie from Maryland
Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum and thinking about doing a triathlon ever since I ventured into the multisport forum on the old CoolRunning, and then came across someone's blog. The I happened to come across a triathlong at a convention that I was attending. Seemed like sign to me. So, I volunteered at a local triathlon.

I've been running for a little over two years now and have done 5Ks and 10Ks. I was training for my first half-marathon last fall, but got injured and missed the race. Since that time, I've been slowly rebuilding my base. Right now, I swim twice a week with the master's swim team, run about 10-12 miles a week and bicycle twice a week (about 45 mins each time). I'll be heading outside soon for bike rides of 10+ miles.

I'm thinking about a mid-June triathlon...but I'm wondering if my training is sufficient.

First, welcome to BT.com.  I, too, came here from CoolRunning.  A good bunch of folks there, and here.

As for your training, it's hard to tell, but you're probably doing well.  Have you checked out the different Free plans on the site here.  Maybe you can compare what you're doing to what the plans recommend, and make any changes you think might help.

Otherwise, if you start using the blog here, folks can take a look at what you're doing and give you some feed back.  And inspiration.

I train in each of the three disciplines twice/week and I'm going to the the Columbia Triathlon, an Olympic-distance event. Where in Maryland are you located? I checked their website and the guy who won the 2007 Hawaii Ironman Triathlon is actually going to be competing in this race!

If that's accurate, I'm sure you'd be ready for at least a sprint distance by June, probably an Olympic if you ramp it up a little. I'm using Michael Pate's Couch to Sprint in 22 weeks (free plan from BT) to train for IronGirl in Columbia MD in August.

I went to www.tricolumbia.org and checked out last year's racing results. Based on that, I made a personal goal for August. I'm learning from the BT site that "bricks" are important, too, so maybe work on that.

Michael Pate's Couch to Sprint is designed for someone just getting started, so you could jump ahead with your running, for sure. And you could probably pick the biking up starting at about week 10 or 12 or so. Hope you find a training plan you like!

Welcome to BT. The folks here have a plethora of knowledge. I don't think there's a better place to get tri related training info than here. I learn so much from the folks here.
