Las Palomos Triathlon At Rocky Point

Can anyone give some insight into this race??

It's a great race! A big fun party race. But it's a new company running the gig, so things might be different from previous years. Sounds like the bike course will be on nicer roads. The ocean swim is great, as long as the weather cooperates. Apparently in '04, it rained and it was a huge mess. in '05 the weather was lovely, and as my first olympic, the swim was a piece of cake. Traditionally the run course has run over a big hill out and back, but it looks like that might have changed too.

I'm also wondering how it will be, being on Cinco de Mayo. That should add the party into the race? But since it sounds like the race course is faster now, that might be a good course to be highly competitive on?

So essentially, nothing about the race is the same from previous years. Can only vouch that Red Rock Co puts on good races, and Rocky Pt is a fun place to race.

I think so. I think it'd be a good race to do to inject some more Good Times into triathloning. (I am a fan of destination races.) I have IMAZ on April 15, so I probably won't sign up til afterwards. I wouldn't mind getting a spot on that bus that's going down though.

I don't know if you've been to Mexico much - but I should add that there's an element of unexpected tehre. In '05 a girl I knew hit a stray dog on the bike and got all scraped up. I also found myself in the middle of some kind of parade (?!) and thought I was lost for a minute. Further I remember on top of the hill, some kids were handing out water - and kept on reusing the same cups! But I also think Red Rock puts on better races, so with better roads and better race direction, it might be a bit more predictable.

Apparently:

"Chartered Bus Service to Mexico

The Red Rock Company will be chartering a bus from Phoenix for $105.00 per person. The bus will hold 56 people total. We will be transporting your bikes separately for no additional cost. The bus will leave Phoenix Friday afternoon and will be arriving to the host hotel late Friday afternoon. You will receive all of your race registration packets upon boarding the bus.

The bus will leave Las Palomas Sunday afternoon, returning to Phoenix around 7:00 p.m. Sunday night.

To R.S.V.P. for this service, please email [email protected].
More information will be posted soon."

Awesome.

I think my friend and I might take our first TRI plunge and compete or survive this race.

Mexico (especially R.P.) is fun. She's right about the "unexpected" element of ole' Mex. But it's all part of the adventure... except hitting a dog probably sucked (and they're everywhere).

I am doing the race, along with a handful of AZ Tri Club and some NM Outlaws. Post IMAZ party race!

The race this year is supposedly on all newly paved roads and the run in on the golf course so the unexpected shouldn't be as common this year.
