Hi all,

A couple of nights ago I was on a mission, marking every mile in the block, I was in my car with a can of spray paint, reset the car odometer, and in every mile I mark it. I have two routes, one 5k and almost 10k, Last night I ran the 5k, this Sunday the 10k Woo!!

But I was thirsty as hell, I'm gonna buy a fuel belt, to stay hydrated.

I want to know how many of you run in the neighborhood or everybody run in the park. And how many use an hydration belt.

Carlos.

So brazen to use that can of spraypaint! Actually a very good idea. And I think it's smart to do that at night. I'll have to try it.

Anyway, I run in the neighborhood, but there are dirt and sidewalk trails that I use. I don't have a fuel belt, but I use a waist belt that holds a water bottle on an angle at my back that I just pull out when needed. It only holds about a 20-22 oz bottle though. On long run days, I leave drinks on the trail for myself (I drive to particular spots).

Carlos,

I run around what you can call my neighborhood, I live in the country in a very hilly area, dirt and tar roads. I have several routes measured a 3.1, 4.6, 6.6 the 6.6 goes to the summit of the highest hill in our area, The people I work with and I organized a 8k race from the bottom of the hill to the top of it last year and called it the Blinn Hill Breaker; a large part of the cse is 8%.

LOL, this reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Kramer sprayed out the dotted lane markers! I can't mark my street, there is so much dirt on it that's all I'd be painting.

I do not actually mark any spots but I do measure out routes when I am out on my bike or in the car. I actually have different routes that I take and identify each 1/2 kilometer by some kind of sign or a specific tree. It is fairly easy once you get the "hang" of it.

For about $20- $30 you can get a good pedometer. You will always know your distance and can run anywhere while keeping you neighborhood clean and beautiful.

I painted the streets around here, then figurd out that when this county was platted years ago the founding fathers layed out the roads north/south, east/west in half mile distances like a giant checkerboard. I've ran it enough now that I just go by landmarks.

I have a Nike tailwind, it keeps track of distance, pace and calories burned. Clips to your sneaker. Ebay sells them cheaper than anywhere.

I measured out a 5k for an upcoming PAL (police athletic league) fun run. It starts and finishes about a block from my house, and marking it I think will fall under the "lawful discharge of my duties."

We run on a riverwalk where we can't take our cars (though bikes would be OK. In any case, one of the guys took one of those survey wheels and measured our courses. We wrote down all of the landmarks along the way.

Half mile to the curve past the mill,
1 mile to the 2nd power pole after the restrooms,
1.5 miles to the foot of the bridge,
etc...
