Swim
Comments: I thought the swim went well. I was very surprised by my posted time/pace. As others have stated, I am suspicious that the course was a little long. I certainly did not feel that "slow". Despite that, my placing within AG was good. Interestingly, I was one of only 3 without a wetsuit. Water temp was absolutely fine, but I may like the float/swim benefit of a wetsuit. What would you do differently?: Swim faster, likely buying wetsuit. Transition 1
Comments: Thought the time was a little slow. Bike was racked within 30' of bike in/out which was nice. What would you do differently?: Qucker still. Bike
Comments: Much better on bike. Upped my avg mph by 2mph. Uphills still not very good. Kind of bonked in the last third. Took a gel despite not wanting to due to fullness. It helped/hurt: helped with the bonk but increased the fullness feeling. I was hoping for 20.5-21mph but missed that target. What would you do differently?: More training, better pacing, better nutrition mgmt. Transition 2
Comments: Was fairly quick. Could be a little quicker, but overall satisfied. What would you do differently?: Continue to speed up. Run
Comments: My run was not as good as it should have been. For the 1st 2mi I was battling a moderate side ache. I can't remember the last time I had one of those. While it decreased over time, it never fully went away. While I consider myself a strong hill runner, the hills today smacked me pretty good. I also had a litttle left calf cramping and ILTB pain. Nothing bad and I don't think either contributed at all to my slow time. It's possible I biked too hard, but it didn't feel like it at the time. What would you do differently?: Better pacing. Post race
Warm down: Some stretching and walking. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nutrition wasn't the best. Need to work on pacing better. Event comments: Overall, satisfied with my placing on 1st Oly. I met (barely) my biking goal. Well below on swim/run. It's possible my bike might have been a little too fast, but it didn't feel like it at the time. Can't complain about 12/45 in AG and 125/438 overall for 1st Oly. Need better pacing and fitness. Breakfast of greek yogurt/granola, water, and coconut water. May not do the yogurt/granola thing next time. Left house a little late. Because of this I ended up parking a little further away (at Boston Sci). I had an issue with my pump and my back tire. Fortunately, borrowing someone else's pump solved the issue.
Soley consisted of arm/rotator cuff stretch/warm-up.
