It's been hovering at or above 100 with very hight humidity for 4 days now and I am wondering what a Tri is like in blistering heat with high humidity. My Tri in March was about 68 degrees.... Any tips?

I with ya, Tom. It's been hot in Houston as well. I went out on Monday for a supposed 6 mile run. This was the first really freaking hot day in Houston, and I was out at 5PM. Of course, I had done a 42 mile bike ride the day before. Well, you might have guessed it, but I had to quit running after 3 miles, because of the oppressive heat and that I had no gas in my tank.

After taking a day off, I did a 7.5 mile run, with intervals, while pushing a double baby jogger, yesterday, so it can be done. But what else can we do but keep training? Gonna do my long runs in the morning when I can.

I am doing the Tejas Triathlon in Sugar Land next Sunday, so we'll see how that goes...

Does that mean this time you are looking forward to the swim?

I know how you feel Tom. I love the heat. While others are passing out from heat exhaustion, I'm plugging away, big smile on my face, wondering why it couldn't be just a bit hotter! Best advice I can give is plenty of pre-race hydration, and then keep drinking during the race as well. Don't let yourself get dehydrated.

I read in Runner's World that it can take a couple of weeks to get acclimated to hot conditions during training. It said to just adjust and accept. Also, try to do long runs and such in the morning or evenings. I did 11.7 this morning, fully equipped with my new Fuel Belt, and I felt great throughout. Of course, I got started at oh-seven-hundred...
