If anyone ever needs an exercise demonstration/video demo, www.exrx.net is the go to place for that. I think they have almost every exercise known to humans.
I've also added the Bulgarian to my repertoire; it's quite good.
As for other exercises that pack a good punch, if you're doing a total body routine, the power clean and push press combo will pretty much work your entire body provided you know how to properly do a power clean. I've read a couple of articles that have suggested that, in the on-going debate of whether weight training benefits endurance performance, doing exercises that develop power (e.g., the power clean ) have been shown to be beneficial. Even one of BT's staunchest members of the "weight training doesn't help endurance" camp has noted that plyometric training, a form of training to develop power, can improve running performance. Plyometrics is an advanced form of training, and is a form of "shock" training, which can be tough on joints that are already stressed from miles of running as they involve lots of jumping. You're better off starting with the power clean, then moving on to plyometrics if you wish. |
