Pre-race routine:

We left late and thought we were doing fine on time. In the end, we were but it was very stressful for a while there. The lines for registration were huge but the line for the port-a-potty was insane! Not to mention that I drank a TON of water on the way there--need a say more. In the end I jsut had to hold it!! I ate a mini-bagel and a bannana on the way there, about 90 minutes prior to the race.
Event warmup:

Walking around looking for my sweet husband and children, which I never found before the start :( Not to mention doing the "potty dance"!

Comments:

Without meaning to I was positioned rather forward in the group. That of course meant a bunch of people passing me, but that was okay. The thing was that I started running and with so many others around me running, I didn't realize how fast I was really going, well, that is until, I started breathing so hard and my heart rate went sky high! I walked the rest of the course at a good pace for me, since on a usual day, I walk faster than I run! LOL, but true!

I really wasn't stressed about the people passing me, until I started seeing the women with strollers, the people with dogs, and then the couple that looked to be in their 70's walking along (looking like they were strolling on the beach) holding hands--all fly by me...Ugggghhh! Then I heard the familiar rumble of my ever present police escort...double ugggghhhhh!!

There were 2 sisters walking behind me and we ended up walking together. One had just gotten back from the Peace Corps in Africa 3 days ago and the other was from Orlando and her husband works at the hotel we are staying at next week. So, before I was married, I did overseas short term missions work so the Peace Corps girl and I had a lot to talk about. Well, of course the Disney sister and I had a lot to talk about.

The majority of the time, I kept an eye out for some where to sneak off to the bushes, but given the neighborhood, that just never happened!

Saw my husband and children just before the finish and gave the kids "high 5's"! It just makes my world to see them!

The great news is that I finished about 1 minute before the winner of the half mary!!
What would you do differently?:

Not talked, I could have gone much faster if I had been focusing!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked to the port-a-potty back at he registration area!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Talking!

Event comments:

When I pulled the results up on line later that day, they did not list my time in the finishers or even mention my name. I don't understand...the clock was going. I went over the timing mat...I sent them an email to see what the deal is! This part really sucked!

Darn, too bad you didn't live closer, I could do that! I'll be at Gasparilla in Feb trying to get Renee through the full marathon. Come to think of it, getting myself through it will be enough of a challenge!

You did great...you should be proud of yourself. You are improving and getting out there and doing it. Your family was excited and supportive of you. I know you touched other people in your race talking about missions you did.

In my first 5K a three legged dog passed me..and I'm not kidding...he passed me like three times. In my 5 mile run on Thanksgiving I was last from about mile 1.5 until mile 4. I was able to pass 4 people in the last mile or was it five people. It just started that I can pass people...and it is fun. You'll be doing it soon to. It has taken me over 1.5 years of running to really start to see progress..but it is coming along.

I look forward to reading your next RR!!
