Travel case for Christmas?

I saw DC Rainmaker and others recommend Aerus, which is apparently no longer available. The Swift Ochrana bag is supposed to be similar. Does anyone have any experience with it?

Just throwing this out there. Instead of buying a case he may use only a few times you may check out Tri bike transport.

You can buy a soft case for less than $300, but in general, hard cases are slightly more. Once in a while you can find something like a Thule Roundtrip case for $300 (MSRP is about $450).

I would not recommend a soft case for air travel… yes, lighter and cheaper, and if offers some protection, but not really enough impact protection. Also, you can't ship a soft case via FedEx/UPS. Things to look for in a hard case. Locks (or ability to lock with TSA approved pad locks), wheels, handles on at least two sides. Two separate "compartments", one for the frame and one for the wheels. One thing you have to keep in mind is that a hard case can be difficult to fit in a rental car….

I have only used one Thule 699 and used it twice this year is very Durable

its expensive brand new from $400-$450

but you can buy it used below your budget.

What i like about it has divider inside for the wheels and the frame. also has inside straps to hold the frame.

just some added info Southwest Airlines is the most cost friendly one Check-in + one Bike Case= $75 ,

I use the Trico one. The one I have now has been back and forth from both Afghanistan and Iraq with no damage at all. The box is tough!!

X2 on the Trico Iron Case.
We bought 2 before we moved to the other side of the world from Miami and it was the best decision for us. I researched cases for months before we bought them. I even called and talked to Trico before buying. Used Trico Iron Cases fetch a high resale also if you decide to sell it years down the road.
IMO--buy Trico Iron Case and never look back.

I just saw that my response from a century ago never posted! A VERY belated thanks to everyone for your help. I ended up finding a new Aerus Biospeed for $260.It worked perfectly! We have a friend who bought a hard Thule and was very happy with it, too.

PS-TriBike Transport would have been awesome, but they didn't have any local pick-ups for my husband's race last year.
