Hi! to everyone, I am glad to be here and have a really deep desire to compete.. I have always loved the sport and only just recently did it dawn on me that I might be able to compete in one. I have a good friend who inspired me as I learned that he was doing triathalons. I must admit that I am starting from almost complete scratch. My work is very physical. I am a pipe layer/ laborer doing water work. I am trying to balance everything and still be able to get rest in. I have alot to learn. I look forward to making friendships here. My actual name is Peter. Thanks for reading..

Good decision Peter.  This site is really supportive and inspirational.  When they open up the mentor groups in the spring try and join one and in the mean time read lots of threads and as you learn your way around ask some questions.

Good luck.

I am 56 and just completed my first triathalon. Over the years I have done all 3sports at various times but never all together . I hadn't' run in years so that was my biggest fear. I followed the 22 week free plan with the run emphasis and on race day I came in 2nd in my age group and 8th female overall out of 48! This was a sprint tri so now I plan to do a sprint series next year and maybe try an Olympic,

Thanks for the welcomes and the encouragement. Lots of work ahead but I am jazzed about it. I will certainly be scouring the forum.

I entered and finished my first Ironman at 56! Ford Ironman Tempe. Looking back at the journey, the people and places I went to to train and keep things fresh. It was all worth it. I know do sprints at the drop of a hat, 1/2 marathons for 'fun' and swim in the Pacific Ocean for miles at a time. Its crazy but I am almost in the same shape as my 30 year old son (who is a certified trainer for Crossfit!) Enjoy and train in different places.

Welcome Peter! I just turned 60 this year and have completed two "beginner" triathlons. Best part for me is my wife is training and doing this with me which is loads of help. The nice thing is I too am in the best shape of my life and looking to do a full Ironman no later than age 65; after all, it's just a number....right?

I'm not that far behind you--hit 55 in the summer. I'm getting back to this after being away for a time. I didn't do my first 1/2 marathon or full marathon until age 50, and my first tri (a sprint) at 51. I loved it. Got sedentary and put weight back on. Now in the process of getting back at it. My goals are very similar to yours. Good luck--keep us posted. Though the journeys may not be identical, they certainly are similar. This technology can give us company on the path.
