Subject: Transition Bags.. suggestions??
A couple questions regarding the transition bag. I've seen them in stores and stuff, but are they really that much of an advantage? In the past I've just used gym duffle bags (few sprint tris), but doing an olympic and possibly a 1/2 IM this summer and wondering if a transition bag is a quality investment?? What brands, and what should you look for in picking out a bag?

thanks...

Welcome to the board BTW. And I just use a standard gym bag, something from Wal-Mart. It's cheaper and I guess I'd rather spend the money on "go fast" stuff! I figure this sport is expensive enough as it is what with the $50 and up entrie fees.

I use the DeSoto bag and love it.  It has separate pockets for wet stuff, and a big compartment on the bottom for running shoes.  I like to wear sandals after the race and don't want my nasty running and bike shoes in with my wetsuit.  But then again you could call me a bag lady...I have a bag for the gym, a bag for the pool, a bag for class, another bag for books I'm working on.....I'm sure you get the picture.

I am a bag lady too, but have managed not to buy a tri-specific bag (with difficulty!!)
For racing, I have used a travel style backpack that has a zipper that goes all the way around. It opens wide for easy access, and it was handy to have a backpack when walking the long, long distance from the parking lot to the transition area with your bike in tow.

Yes, I too can be counted as bag lady -- one for each thing and one for work, well two depending on how I am getting to work (drive or bike), and I have resisted the apecific safety Tri Bag. I use a duffle type bag that has a zipper on the top part which allows easy access to my gear. It holds a lot, and I don't put the wetsuit in it -- I carry that separately -- so have not found the lack of a "wet" pocket terribly annoying.

Now this is not to say that I will not at some poing get a tri apecific bag (for safety of course), but what I have is working fine for me now.

thanks for the notes.. How about the TYR Transition bag (see Trisports.com). Its a bit cheaper and looks a little more stout than the DeSoto.

anyhow, may just go with a duffle.

I swear I was not looking for this when I came across it on eBay, I was just looking to see if there were any T1 wetsuits and came across this bag.  Right now it's a steal, may be a bit different in 33 hours.

Thanks Ellen -- If I hadn't just ordered a bag from TriSport, I would consider this one -- esp. for the price!

I say -- I don't know how you get time to study (and it is apparent from your good grades that you do) what with being here with us, checking ebay, skiiing, going to school, and all the other stuff I'm sure you do. Me -- I barely have time to read all the great posts here anymore. There are so many every day, that I can just about squeeze in making and eating dinner after work and that's it!!!!

So -- I guess you are simply SuperTriMom.

I think Ellen's bags keep her organized so that she can do a ton of stuff!! ;-)
Now that the other two bag ladies have Tri Bags, I want one too!! I will have to keep an eye out the next time I go to Ottawa.
