Subject: I need new running shoes...where should I get them in MO?

I need new shoes and I want to find a store that will help me find what's best for my foot and running style.  I don't want a place that will just slide a few boxes in front of me to see what feels good.

I'm in Springfield, but I travel to KC and STL often and I'm willing to travel elsewhere.  Any suggestions?

Thanks...Good Luck and Have Fun!

I personally dont have a lot of experience with buying good running shoes either but was recemmended by running friends to go to Fleet Feet in St. Charles. I thought they did an excellent job with my unusual feet They even had me outside running in 4 or 5 different styles and assesing my run , which i thought was cool. They took they're time with me and seemed genuinely helpful. Thats my personal experience with em anyways .

Anyone else have good luck over the years with Fleet Feet as well?

If you ever get to Columbia..  I would recommend The Starting Block.   Free video foot/gait analysis and good people running it.  Decent prices.

Thanks everyone!

I will be in STL later this month so I'm going to check out Big River.  I also like to idea of gait analysis at the Starting Block.

Thanks again

Hey... My favorite place is The Running Center of St. Louis. Just south of the Galleria mall by a couple miles, off of manchester rd. Great service, and great selection. They will spend hours with you if you need it.

Everyone I have sent there swears by them now. Plus they really have lower prices than anywhere else I have been to.

big river is great on customer service, and more often that not you will see you matt or ben, the owners.

at fleet feet they actually watch you run and are trained in in some sort of "fitting" system. BUT, i will say, i've noticed alot of new people at fleet feet lately, which would also make me nervous.

I personally am not a huge fan of Fleet Feet.

Ghissalo Running in University City is great too. Knowledgable staff and a very nice shop.

Could have saved $9 buck off my Asics vs Fleet Feet so I will give them a shot from now on. Thanks.

For those who were wondering what running store was south of the Galleria, it is on the corner of McKnight and Manchester

Seriously, TRC is cheaper than anywhere online usually. They rock.

Sorry for the late response, have been away.
If you are looking for expertise, fitting and selection, it is Ghisallo Running.

Late last year, the three full time employees of The Running Center left there to start their own store (Jason, Doug and Jim).  They have 30 years of combined experience in the sale of the right shoe to the athlete.

Their web site is www.ghisallorunning.com with directions, etc.

I was so glad to find where they had gone, as they have been fitting me with shoes/socks/gear for 10 years.

They are the only store in St. Louis that carries Newton shoes.

 Check them out!!

One more mention...in Kansas City, the ONLY place to go is Garry Gribble Sports.  Three locations, all great stores and selection.

Google Gary Gribble Sports and he pops right up.

An update, if you want it.

I went to The Starting Block in Columbia a couple weeks ago.  The did a video gait analysis.  I liked the people, the products and the service, plus they're opening a store in Springfield soon.  Cool!  I bought a new pair of shoes and so did my wife.

BTW, I had a less than optimum experience at Gary Gribble in KC.  I wouldn't send a friend there.

i am glad that you had a good experience with them.  The owners (Mark and Amy Livesay) are super nice.  Mark is also the owner of the Ultramax tri series.

They were involved with the Republic Tiger Tri (my hometown race) last year and they did a great job!
