Subject: strangest thing you've seen on a ride/run

So this morning I was out for my ride and had to stop due to a red belly black snake. Seeing this gave me something to think about and I want to ask you all, what is the weirdest/most interesting thing you have seen while out on a ride or run?

btw snake wasn't harmed nor was anyone else, just stopped bike waited for it to finish crossing then we went on our merry way.

A hobo once tried to run into me a few miles into a ride, luckily I was able to swerve around him

Alpacas in New Jersey. We stopped to take pictures and they came right over to us. Guess someone forgot to shut the gate!

Out mountain biking one early morning; there was a naked dude running on the trails.  Not "fully" naked; he did have socks and running shoes; and his shorts were in his hand...

And you think YOUR neighborhoods are weird...

Pie fight!

This was right around 10am on a weekday, about a week and a half ago. And no, I don't know any of these people.

Almost hit a doe on my bike this past summer. I had my head down in aero (quiet country road - River Road for those that have done IMLP) and was zooming along when a car that had just passed me slammed its brakes. I looked up and there was a doe standing in the road right in front of me. Luckily I was able to stop in time. Both the car and I had to wait forever for her fawn to finally cross the road.

Early Saturday morning ride, passing by the town soccer/baseball/lacrosse fields, mist lifting from the grass, and I see a huge bull running free across the field - horns and all! There is a farm about 1/2 mile down the road that it escaped from. Glad I wasn't wearing my red cycling kit.

Last summer I had a squirrel run at me and end up going between my wheels somehow without me hitting him! I did scream though. Made me laugh the whole way home.

I was riding on a quiet country road and saw a child's stuffed animal, sitting on the side of the road.  As I approached it, I noticed it moved, ever so slightly then just as I was about to pass it, I lunged directly in front of me across my front wheel.

I screamed very loudly and almost wrecked my bike.  As I looked to my left, I saw two kids with a fishing pole, which I assume the toy was connected to, laughing very loudly.

Those kids are probably going to get in trouble a lot as they grow up but that is totally awesome.

Don't think I top the last one, but I almost got hit by a turkey flying across the road one morning.

My husband and I were riding out a curvy county road.  I came around the curve first and there was a cow standing in the middle of the road looking our direction.  We must have startled it because it ran and jumped (yes, jumped) the wire fence back to where it belonged.

While out on a ride on a paved path, there were 3 bighorn sheep about 20 feet in front of me. They saw me coming and just ambled on, no big deal but very cool to see up close

This morning ran by a box of cupcakes, sitting out on an electrical box bu the sidewalk. It was about 20 degrees so they were frozen stiff (probably overnight). Brought one home to my wife but she was not impressed. The icing was ok!

I lived in Japan for a few years teaching English... Because of my strange work schedule I often ran late at night.

Once when I was in the middle of a run some guy stopped his car and from what I could understand tried to proposition me... I think he was offering money.. Crazy..

OMFG that's hilarious! Personally,  I'd have been soooo pissed.

I live in the country, so lots of animals around -- one time I rode past a ranch and saw about a dozen horses cows in a mini-stampede.  To this day I'm convinced they were racing me.

Seeing a deer or a moose is pretty common when I ride, but one time I saw 2 deer and 3 moose (mom and two calves) hanging out together.  A scene right out of Bambi.

(Edited to replace horses with cows -- no wonder I was able to stay competitive with them)

I've seen a variety of wildlife: bobcat, coyote, alligator, numerous snakes, possum, and if you want to speed up, a skunk at the middle school track at 5:30 in the morning.  A few homeless guys live in the park under a bridge where I sometimes run.  From the bridge underpass I have seen dolphin and manatee.  Riding the bike home I have been buzzed by an eagle. I am in a fairly out of the way area.

Think I've posted a lot about this before but not sure I shared the ride ones. It would have to be from a ride outside Saigon last spring--a man coming toward us (going the wrong way) in the motorbike lane on a motorbike with Grandma strapped into a wheelchair which was somehow attached to the motorbike. Grannie was strapped in but did not appear to be enjoying the ride.

Mom and I were just reminiscing about crazy bike tours and we both remember the "harvester" in rural Hungary--some kind of farm machine which involved about ten people lying prone and harvesting (beets?) which was driven thru the field while music blared from it. Then there was the portly couple mowing their lawn in their birthday suits, in some little village in the Czech Republic.

First one, probably the broad side of a car that hit me and put me out of commission for a while.... hip surgery was required.  Finally after 2 years I am "allowed" to run again now.

That being said, in the middle of winter here, one of the oddest things to see is another person running or on their bike!!  HA!

The most interesting stuff though is some of the wildlife interactions.  I've seen peregrine falcons carrying salmon, baby deer playing in the roadways, some pretty serious feats of ability from other deer going UP sheer cliff edges etc.

Was out on a run and came upon 2 cats having sex and there was a 3 cat right there not more than a foot away just watching them. Was indeed the strangest thing, as i could not figure out why this third cat was watching the other two. Animals are indeed strange!!

Well in my summer of running I've seen a handful of deer, including 3 bucks in the suburban area where I live.  Deer hunting in rural farm land, only 1 buck.  All the smart deer live in the suburbs.
