Expert 1059 Lakeville, MN | Subject: RE: Chisago Lakes Sprint Triathlon : Official Thread DB - 2010-07-22 6:59 AM My opinion: If you get their bright and early on Sunday you should be fine. This race always seems to be really hectic - crammed transition area, way too few porta potties, etc so we always try and get there a bit early to beat the mad rush. Exactly...I think the T-area opens at 4:45...I get there at 4:30....I have gotten there later in the past, and the lines to pick up your packet are long, and like DB said, there are WAY too few porta potties |

Elite 3687 | Subject: RE: Chisago Lakes Sprint Triathlon : Official Thread I'll try to answer some of the questions asked. As far as a wetsuit goes, wear it. If you have to ask if people wear them at a sprint then wear it. This indicates to me you have not done a lot of swimming in tri's. A wetsuit will help with floating but to me the biggest factor for wearing it is safety. If you get panicked, tired or dissorientated you can just stop swimming, take a deep breath and float. After three years of doing the half I am switching down to the sprint this year and I plan on wearing my full suit if they are allowed. Unless it takes you a really long time to take it off they are always worth wearing. The lake has always been very weed free when I have done this race. My 14 year-old daughter is a freak about weeds and she had no problem doing the sprint last year. The packet pick-up can be a bit of a cluster if you are late arriving so the earlier the better. Nice thing about this race is you do have a designated space in the transition area. Well, if you like that kind of thing anyway. One bit of advice...bring extra toilet paper! As stated the porta potties are a little under numbered and I know they ran out of essentials last year. TIP to newbies. Kelly and I always stop at a local gas station before hitting the race scene. If you can avoid the porta potties, by all means do. Good luck to everyone on Sunday! As always, if you see a guy with a Divine Swine tri top with a big pig on the front and back be sure to say hi. |

Extreme Veteran 664 Minneapolis | Subject: RE: Chisago Lakes Sprint Triathlon : Official Thread Thanks all - good info. Sounds like the day-of packet pickup might be a zoo, I'll probably head up on Saturday just to check things out & get that warm fuzzy... Might as well do one of the available group swims when I'm up there too See y'all up there - I'll probably be wearing the same kit in my avatar pic... Cheers, Chris |

Regular 109 Chisago City | Subject: RE: Chisago Lakes Sprint Triathlon : Official Thread Just got back from riding the sprint course and found the roads to be in pretty good shape. There is a section from about mile 3 to mile 6 that is really pretty rough. It is the section of road on county road 19. Make sure you have everything strapped down to your bike when you hit this section as the bumps are pretty relentless. Once you make the turn on to 61 the roads smooth out and it is smooth sailing all the way back to T2. As for the half iron course the roads are also pretty good, with the exception of the above mentioned section of 19. Also there was a pretty wicked pothole right at the turn onto county 16. It may have been fixed, but I almost fell into it a few weeks ago when I was out preriding the course. Thats about all I remember. If I can think of anything else I'll post. I will also try and get a water temp tomorrow morning, but I would be surprised if it wasn't wetsuit legal. The cool nights and rain should help to bring the temp down. Good luck to everyone on Sunday. My wife and I will be there bright and early on Sunday morning. |

Extreme Veteran 664 Minneapolis | Subject: RE: Chisago Lakes Sprint Triathlon : Official Thread Straight from the rules: "Westuits may be worn" No addiotnsal restrictions listed or other indications that temp limits will be a factor in allowing wetsuits. I'm leaving now to get my packet, but I'll be astounded if this race goes no westuits Cheers, Chris |

I also called Midwest this week and they told me that they would let everyone know by packet pick up if it was wetsuit legal. That tells me that they are going to be measuring the temperature otherwise she would have just told me dont worry you can wear a wetsuit regardless of the temp. |

How will we know it's you? Will you be wearing the chicken (or whatever animal it was) suit again? Ha! No, I can't afford to rent that for EVERY race. (It is coming back for the TC Marathon though....) I think I'll be wearing an old-school purple and yellow track jersey, and I'll have a camera around my neck. Happy racing!!! |

Veteran 271 St. Paul, MN | Subject: RE: Chisago Lakes Sprint Triathlon : Official Thread Went to packet pick-up and practiced the sprint swim. I don't know actual water temps, but there were some cooler spots. Felt very comfortable in my sleeveless wetsuit, and would bet a full sleeved suit would have been nice in those chilly spots. |

Elite 3687 | Subject: RE: Chisago Lakes Sprint Triathlon : Official Thread I swam at the 11:00 swim this morning and the water was fine. I did the whole swim loop for the sprint in my full sleeve suit and did not get overheated like I sometimes do. Lakes is relatively weed free with the exception of a few floaters. Course seemed a bit short. See you all I switched to the sprint and now instead of being in wave 2 or 3 like I have been the last 3 years now I am in wave 25 Yucko. Did a pre-ride with daughter today to stretch my legs and had my first crash of the year. Yea roadrash!! Hope to see a lot of you tomorrow. |

Elite 3687 | Subject: RE: Chisago Lakes Sprint Triathlon : Official Thread Had a decent day today. Unfortunately finished one place off the podium again. Anybody else have both the bike and run course being long? I had the run at 3.21 and the ride at 21.5. That's fine, just a little tough to take on the ego at first glance. Daughter Alyssa finished in first in the 14 and under category again this year. She is all ready eye balling the competiion in the 15-19 group for next year. |

New user 403 | Subject: RE: Chisago Lakes Sprint Triathlon : Official Thread I also had a good day considering a spill at mile 4 on the bike. Too congested and I ended up running into the back of a person drifting out to the left. If I do the race again, i'll have to sign up early or lobby for an earlier wave. I couldn't believe how many times I came up to 3 to 4 across who appeared to be chatting or no consideration to stay right. I also think they need to cap the registration. |

I also think they need to cap the race.... I can't really complain at since I was an Elite wave and being up front don't really let you see whats happening with the AG race, I'm sure some of you saw my sorry @ss getting out of the water (lots of problems with my body) and dropped out very early being massively dehydrated. Thanks for the support tho, the only reason I got on the bike was because of the people and the AG gave me a lot of words of encouragement. When I was coming back after dropping out I saw how congested the race was, I was talking to few of my friends who did the sprint and they were worried about safety during the race. Lots of people barely making it out of the water, also I saw a lot of people that wiped out at the medical tent, and some other things that should be taken care of for next year. It is a nice event, very stack for the elites and what not, also the kids race was awesome!!! but yeah I think the race needs to be cap. Hope all of you had a great time there, and once again thanks for the moral support. Cheers, Jose R. |
