Master 8247 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: What do you drive? In Vietnam.....my Martin 107 bike. No gears, plastic basket, bell shaped like a hamburger. Or what's called "Bus #11" (feet; walking). Or the next available Mai Linh taxi. In the US--Hyundai Accent. I think 2008--I bought it new then. Mainly for financial reasons--it gets good gas mileage; I'd had bad experiences with a previous car and I wanted a new car that wasn't American (not very patriotic, I know). Did some research and a couple of Hyundai models looked good; this one was on sale. In retrospect I should have gotten something just a bit bigger. I can "almost" put my bike in it but it requires laying down the back end and then the wheel sticks up above the passenger seat--can't take a passenger unless I remove the front wheel. Fitting in bike plus tri crap would be tough, and I wouldn't be able to take a passenger. If it's a race in the US I borrow my parents' Forrester. Don't recommend this car if you're much taller than me (5'7" and change). The back seat is pretty squishy for people who aren't petite. But the front is comfortable and it's a great little road trip car for one or two people. |

Subject: RE: What do you drive? Originally posted by DanielG Pilot, check I brought my bike to make sure it would fit in the back seat. Oh, to continue on with that car. The trunk was designed by the mafia as far as I can tell. You can fit an entire wardrobe in it without much issue. Rear seat backs fold down 60/40 if you need even more storage for longer stuff too. My sons are 5'10" and 6'2" and both have said it's one of the more comfortable rides they've been in. Family reunion is a 6 hour drive, so they've had plenty of time to make that decision. |

Pro 6011 Camp Hill, Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: What do you drive? Originally posted by jkintn Originally posted by mr2tony I used to have a 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. If you are talking about the 2007-Present (JK) 4-door models and haven't driven one, you might be surprised. The ride is much better than 2005-older (TJ) version. Originally posted by Brit Abroad Same here. No reason to own a car if you live in the city. Parking alone in our 'hood is $200 a month. No thanks! That said, we were looking at a Jeep Wrangler UNlimited (Yes, LB, it's UNlimited) because you can stand up two bikes in the back. Crappy gas mileage and I bet it rides like a Jeep, but in the summer it's a convertible and in the winter it's a 4X4. Plus you can haul everything you need and not hve to worry about getting it dirty. Plus they just look cool. I drive the closest available Zipcar. I've never actually owned a car, since I've always lived in a major city. Chicago is the only city where it's made some sense to own a car. NYC and Boston it would never have happened, more of a hassle than a convenience. I drive a 2010 Wrangler Unlimited. Even though the ride is better than the older two door models because of the longer and wider wheelbase, it's definitely still a truck. The suspension is stiff. The gas mileage isn't that bad by truck & SUV standards. I get about 17-18 mpg around town, and 22+ on the highway. I love mine. Lots of space inside. Decent towing capacity, 4wd for Pennsylvania winters, and convertible for spring, summer, and fall. |

Five kids, two dogs, umpteen bikes, fishing gear, hunting gear, kayaks, kids' instruments (daughter plays upright base!), tri-related ridonkulous amount of stuff, boats to tow, etc... So, we have the land-yacht ('08 Sequoia) and it's tender ('06 Honda Pilot), pictured below. The sequoia is fresh back from a hunting outing last night (not a single edible bird was flying, though). We tend to buy things and use 'em up. Not the most ecologically friendly, but on a per-seat-mile or per-ton-of-chit-hauled basis, these beat a Prius. The Better Half has been eyeballing a few old school two-door jeeps, so we might add a "fun" car (as in, maintenance HOG) to the fleet. I figure it'll soften the blow when I bring up the idea of a new duck boat (boats are like bikes, with the n+1 or s-1 rule). Occasionally also drive a plane, but have to rent those. Master 2642 Bloomington, MN | Subject: RE: What do you drive? We have three cars in the family: 2004 Ford F-150 2012 Toyota Venza 1998 Volvo S70 The Volvo is for my daughters to drive and only has 53,000 miles in mint condition. Wife drives the Venza. Good in winter, decent fuel economy, and roomy. I drive the F-150 and love, love it. Bought it new and its a great truck. Waiting for it to have serious issues so, I can justify buying a new one. The newer F-150s have a lot more technology, including the eco boost engine. I am running the standard 5.4L Triton. It may be rough going from a truck to a car unless you don't haul anything, drive on rough roads or in winter. BTW, love the pictures of the classic trucks. |

Matt Another reason for the Yukon XL was that I play music and have to haul my double bass (upright) and a full PA system for the shows. I can sometimes make it work in the Jeep, but the passenger has to sit close to the dash because of the double bass. |

Master 6834 Englewood, Florida | Subject: RE: What do you drive? I am currently in a 2002 Jeep Wrangler. I bought it new and took two daughters through softball while coaching them (lots of gear). I now have a bike rack hanging off the spare tire. I can put the top and rear seat down and haul way more then you would think. Cool factor? I keep putting on bigger tires and it keeps getting cooler. It will eventually be replaced with the 4 door version, but not until I have another 100,000 miles on it. And grandkids to load in it |

I am sure you can put a bike on it and there is a ton of trunk space.....but I don't. There is a big change in the sheet metal on the newer ones. Curious, what broke on the Tahoe? |

Member 166 Delco, PA | Subject: RE: What do you drive? I'm driving a '97 Honda Civic and am the fifth owner. When first bought, it needed just $250 of work and it hasn't had a problem since. 161,000 miles on it but it still runs like a champ and is extremely cheap on gas. When just about empty, it costs about $30 to fill up. Also, I take the front wheel off my bike, put the back seats down, and it fits in perfectly when on its side. I could use a bike rack, too, but I prefer this method. Has a couple of dents in it from previous owners but hey, it runs and does everything I could possibly need as a 16 year old. Not too sure if it would make it for a 100mile + drive but for getting around town it does me fine. |

I had a 911 turbo convertible, a Volvo XC90, and a BMW 550i M sport. My wife said we had to get to two cars so the 911 and the XC90 will morph into this:
I dare you to get the diesel! I would love to be in the place where I could afford one. Well, I probably could... but then I could only afford an old Lincoln station wagon with a tail-gunner seat for the wife and kids. Probably not a smart move. |
