So does this mean that I just adjust my goal to my current total and am 100% for the month?

I don't want to be removed from the team spreadsheet though

they have this snazzy formula to figure out how to adjust your percentages so that you can stay in the challenge.

i know DEEDERS posted the info on our old thread.  lord knows what page though....i betcha if you PMed her, she could tell you....

MORNING GHOULIES!

the pig roast was FAB.  you know there are some events when a cold fall evening is totally appropriate, yesturday was one of those events.

my friend has this beautiful piece of property in the middle of nowhere.  the leaves were gorgeous.  the pig was on the spit.  the fires were goin in the pits.  the kids were all bundled up playing football in the backyard.  the pumpkins were carved and serving as centerpieces.

it was the best evening!

we of course enjoyed hanging out w our friends, and met some really nice people...

the hightlight for me was when i 'presented' my friend w my finishers medal and race shirt.  i think i took him off guard - he knew full well that i dedicated both of my races to him when i ran em, but i know he wasnt expecting to get the race-day booty too.

he laughed.  he cried.  we hugged.  he said that he had a wall in his office at work w a tri sticker hanging up, he said he would add these to the wall....and then we talked all tri related stuff from running shoes, to tri suits, to bikes....he was 'picking' my brain.

theres a lot that needs to happen on the 'technical' side of things before he's able to compete - namely being fitted for a special sport specific prosthetic - but even though there will be some 'lag' time my friend is absolutely not deterred.

what i found interesting is, as we were talking, another one of his friends 'offerred' to run a marathon w my friend.  being an avid runner, he 'declared' confidently, 'i'll get you across the finish line'...

and my friend remarked, 'its not a marathon that i feel the desire to do, its a tri.  i want to do a tri'

ANOTHER TRIATHLETE IS BORN!  welcome to the circle, Danny.

i just thought id share what happened, cuz its pretty darn cool.

skrtrnr - 2009-10-18 9:49 AM as if that wasnt 'emotional' enough....

my family has participated in a grief group for families...and while we participated we created a memorial quilt square for my nephew C.

C. sustained a headtrauma/massive hemorragh to his brain stem, and died Feb 2008

our quilt square along w the quilt squares of those that particpated in the group have been lovingly sewn together (by a group of 'saints' and 'angels') to make a wall quilt.

we've been waiting almost a year to see it....

the MEMORIAL QUILT DEDICATION CEREMONY is this afternoon.

this is sure to be sad, emotional, yet a celebratory event.

i remember well, after C. passed away.  i had a 5K scheduled.  no big deal.  i didnt have to run.

i figured i would just skip the race...but a friend of mine, who works in palative care, encouraged me to run the race and dedicate it, to honor C's memory.

the day was butt-ugly cold.  i contemplating packing it in and just going home, but....i stayed and ran my heart out, tears streaming down my face the entire 3.1 miles....

i placed 2nd in my AG, my first race hardware

it was a special moment. not because of the hardware, but...because i knew in that moment, as overwhelming as the grief was, the loss immense, the sadness saturating, life would go on.

im so glad my friend 'convinced' me to run the race...

what could have been a moment in time when i could have started 'skipping' a lot of things in life, because the grief was so consuming, the race was one small way of taking that grief and turning it 'on its ears', morphing it into something that was beautiful, wonderful, sacred....

like what i did w my medals and race shirt.  what Jules has done for Dorothy....

since then, ive made the attempt to dedicate my races to someone/something....

to live life well, is my honorarium.

to C.  to others that ive loved and lost...to those ive known, and some i havent known personally,

to those that are struggling to overcome, i race for them.

and though a 23 dying in car accident is completely senseless, somehow dedicating a run, dedicating a quilt brings purpose and meaning to his life.

if nothing else, he's remembered.  and that's sacred.

SO HERES TO C.
and to HIS LIFE that was WELL LIVED.

stacieb

Really Stacie did you think I needed to get all the tears out in one page??? This is a heartfelt week for you. I always believe you need to live for the ones we lost and celebrate their LIFE not mourn their death. Good for you for living your life in honor of them!

iowagander - 2009-10-17 3:08 PM 3.2 more miles in the bag! The loop around the neighborhood is a nice little run, but that 4% 1/2 mile hill right at mile 2 kicks my butt every time.

Nice work Tom!  That hill sounds......uh.......fun.  Yeah, fun.  Let's go with that.

Yeah, fun's a good word. And it's spelled a lot like another word I'd use with the word "painful."

Have fun with your heat wave tomorrow. Any big plans?

Well, my mom and dad are coming to visit and we are going to go golfing this afternoon.  I need to squeeze a swim and run in before that.

Hope you had a good time golfing!

kimk - 2009-10-18 6:51 AM Morning team! Off to church then trap shooting then the Y and hopefully a run for me! Have a great Sunday!

<------ Jealous! I haven't been shooting in a few months, and it's been years since I shot trap. Have fun!

I did have a great time! I just started shooting (this is my 3rd week of league and only shot 2 times before that) and I finally cleared a station then promptly finished off 2 in a row on the next round! shot 17 - my highest score so far, then shot like #@%$& in 5 stand! Ohhh well!

kromanowski - 2009-10-18 3:15 PM Morning all!  Got my run in this morning!  It was just shy of 6 miles, but my PF started to bug me so I decided to take it easy and not push the extra 0.2 miles.  Oh yeah I was still recovering from the "fun"  I had at the wedding reception last night.

way to get out there Katie

jaxbamf73 - 2009-10-18 5:26 PM Treated myself to a 10 mile trail run in Guana River State Park.  The trails there are nice and big and well maintained! Plus being wooded it blocked the wind coming off the ocean that was gusting 25+mph.  Saw a couple bikers on A1A and thought to myself...poor guys!
That 10 miles put me at 66 miles for the month, 34 to go!

WOW great job!! sounds like a beautiful trail!

I had fun at the 5K today!  Finished in 27:11.  I really wanted to be under 27 minutes.  I had WAY to much energy at the end so I didn't run fast enough.  Oh well.  I'm working on getting closer to my previous speeds.  Baby steps.

It's a REALLY close challenge this month!
The CURRENT CHALLENGE STANDINGS are: 1st place - E.V.I.L. Running Reapers - 56.2% 2nd place - Crypt Keepers - 56.1% 3rd place - Running Pumpkins - 52.9% 4th place - Show Us Your Ghoulies - 50.9% And in the SECONDARY CHALLENGE: (Because you KNOW there's always a secondary POST PADDING challenge!).... Yeah, we know..... It's STILL Show us your Ghoulies by a landslide. (Is anyone truly surprised?) BUT with the standings this close, ANY TEAM CAN WIN IT! Hello, Gouhlies. Do you think our plan to lure the other teams into a false sense of security is working?

Went to church today, then hubby opted out of working (yay!) and instead we headed up one of the nearby canyons with the ATV and a couple of good friends. Got some cute pictures of my kids playing with their puppy, and this beautiful little green-blue lake. The water was soooo pretty. I wonder what mineral was in the water that made it look like that. The bad news is that I didn't get my run in today. The good news is that because I didn't get my run in today, it puts my schedule for the week in a better place. It should ran/snow Tuesday, so a run M/W/F should be about right, weatherwise at least.

I'm headed to bed now, hope you all are having happy dreams of finish lines and lives well lived.

Nighty night, Gouhlies!

Yeah for hubby taking family time! Fun on the 4wheelers is the way to go...love the trails by our "cabin"

Morning Team.  Today is the day I get the approval to start running again hopefully.  I did a lot of short runs yesterday playing football with my son and his buddies and had no reaction so I am taking that as a good sign.

hope all went well and you got the go-ahead...but listen to your body, I still get a pounding headache when I run

skrtrnr - 2009-10-20 5:13 AM MORNING GHOULIES.

minor adjustment to the plan this morning, well.  more like.  a minor adjustment to the route i was planning to run.

my oldest son is home sick.  that makes 3/5 now.  dh and i still 'standing'....

high temp.  cough.  same symptoms.

im gonna get out for my 12 miler today, but im gonna do an out and back that way ill stick closer to home.  my guess is that he'll either sleep all day and/or play his DS, read, watch movies all day.

guess it explains the PISSY mood yesturday.  feel bad now, that i was so short with him.  :{

my youngest said NINE kids were out sick yesturday, just in his class.

manohman it IS a pandemic!

i had my share of sick already, so im hoping for a 'get a jail free' card on this particular strain.

my husband is SURE to get it, and he's a BIG BABY when he's sick.  WAY worse than the kids....not that i want him to get sick, but OI ME this is ONE CONTAGIOUS STRAIN OF YUCK!

well.  i need to eat my egg whites, and then im off to stash my stuff while my food digests.

im kind of bummed, i cut out the part of my where i get to run through the woods/on the trail...but this way makes so much more sense. ill feel 'better' being closer to home.

besides.  when i get back and i post my run to the spreadsheet i get to watch my percentage go WAY up there.  WEEE.  its the little things....

HAPPY RUNNING

so sorry for the third one sick.  Here's hoping that ends it!  Sorry you will miss the woods

Morning Team.  Well I am officially a cheerleader for you guys through the end of the month.

Someone got my diagnosis right in here and I was truly shocked when the Chiro told me the problem:

ITB but it has not hit my knee - just effecting my upper leg.

No running until almost Thanksgiving - He said I could do the turkey trot most likely but I don't start Marathon training until Mid-December so I am good with that.

Bummer on the no running news.  At least now you know what the problem is so you can treat it and get healthy before the marathon training starts!
