Master 2381 Frisco, Texas | Subject: RE: Boston Marathon Watching Thread I've been watching the Track My Athlete website. It appears some of these guys still have their GPS transponders with them. One guy is on the Intersate and doing 0.83'/mile. I thought that was funny. Great job BT'ers! Lots of strong finishes at Boston. TJ |

Champion 5345 Carlsbad, California | Subject: RE: Boston Marathon Watching Thread It has been 90 minutes since his last update (35k) and he was hitting 45 minute 5k splits pretty consistently. Hopefully it is just an issue with the timing system and he has in fact finished. (But the updates are delayed) Will keep checking and update if I find something |

It's hard trying to find someone in a sea of 25,000 runners. Even hanging out near your corral and looking for your race number didn't work. I did get a couple of pics of BT-ers...wish I could have found you all. Nice race though, you had a perfect day for running!

Regular 545 | Subject: RE: Boston Marathon Watching Thread Thanks everyone for your encouragement!! Fortunately I was able to bring my laptop with me on the run to keep up with this thread. It's a small thinkpad and I have a fast connection so it didn't slow me down too much. Seriously (I'm on a hotel computer now), thanks for setting this up!! I just read through all the posts and it was a really cool to see. Congrats to everyone. I hope that your quads are nowhere near as sore as mine!! If they are, I would encourage you to drink a bunch of pints of Guinness. It's temporary relief but it's still relief |

Regular 545 | Subject: RE: Boston Marathon Watching Thread gracetheterp - 2008-04-21 12:39 PM That hill must have slowed down Paul a bit; he's now 20 seconds off a sub-3 pace. I hope he cranks it out!! While I would like to say I was delayed because I was making out with a bunch of Wellesley (sp??) girls (which would admittedly be creepy given my age), I got a pretty bad butt cramp somewhere in there and I had to stop and work it out. Thing is, I pretty much have no butt so I don't know where it came from. Maybe it was a phantom butt cramp. Who knows? Thanks for cheering me on, Grace!!! |

Champion 6046 New York, NY | Subject: RE: Boston Marathon Watching Thread Volunteering was a blast - they kept me busy! I was at the mile 18.05 water stop - stationed between the two water stations (the leaders wanted to know where the doc was) and since mile 18 is the second hill (heartbreak being the third) lots of people were cramping, feeling the effects of dehydration....and the majority of them were very experienced marathoners! Only was able to actually pick out Todd (Chirunner). The amount of times I ran down to help someone and walk/support/run someone to gatorade/med tent....I think might have added up to a half marathon anyway I got to do hill repeats!
What I learned about cheering people - hard to read names on arms and legs - they are moving! So was able to read and call out when names are on front of body and clear - some people had all sorts of complicated stuff - I cannot believe how fast the leaders were running up the hill - and at mile 18!!! They casually run up at my all out sprint pace on the flats!!! Impressive to watch -
Congrats to all of you!

Veteran 177 Albany, NY | Subject: RE: Boston Marathon Watching Thread gracetheterp - 2008-04-21 11:15 AM Chris in 1:08:57. I hope he's doing OK; I know he wanted to finish in under 3, and he's at 3:14:19 pace right now. Thanks Grace, and everyone, for cheering us on! While I did go to Boston dreaming sub-3, I set out with a 3:10 pace band that morning. A bathroom stop, shoe-lace retie, some cramping, and a Boston fan holding what looked like a live, full sized penguin in his outstretched hand (please tell me someone else saw this) put the goal out of reach. It felt good, though, to keep the pace at even effort on the hills and to cruise into downtown with something left in the tank. Well, this thread just cemented it for me. Paul (pshorty) and I talked at the Boston pre-race dinner about how well the BT site is organized and the tremendous variety of Tri-support this space offers -- yet how its really is all of the people who train and post that make it so wonderful. Reading through the posts was really inspiring. (Do you guys work at all?!) Thank you all for being so supportive and cheering us on from afar. Can't wait to do the same for you!
