Thanks for the link! Someone has google earthed the course. It is very cool! To view the roads take the orange man and place him on the course.

I just read on the website that registration will only take place on Thurs and Fri, both ending at 1800.  We are flying in on Friday to Cancun and will have to take a cab, catch a ferry, catch another cab to the resort, unload our stuff, and then go to registration.  This is awful since I don't know time wise if we will make it there or not- we will definitely be crunched for time.  I just assumed that we could register on Saturday but apparently we can't.  I just emailed the race director asking what we could do if our travel plans don't allow us to register on time or attend the athlete's meeting.  Is anyone else in the same boat as us?

First, try to relax!

I think your best bet was to contact the RD. You did the right thing. I hope things work out for you. Sometimes registration stays open late so maybe you can make it!

No Mike...my wife is pretty bummed.

I hope everyone has settled into IM madness. This is the time when everything starts to become very real. Packing, logistics, the last few workouts all while attempting to get enough sleep. These last few days can get a little crazy for sure. Hard to believe we signed up almost a year and a half ago!

Time to enjoy the last few days of the long journey--

J.J.

I would assume there is a run SN bag.  It is referred to on the registration page as a bag you will receive at packet pick-up.

x2. and it says we can only put food in it.

Another question on SN bags: when do we drop them off? and where?
the website says that we drop off our bikes, bike bags, and run bags on Saturday 28 at Transition (time is according to our bib number) but doesn't say anything about SN...

One last bump for this. All pics circa Oct 2008 And based on the original 2 loop bike course. Instead of turning around at San Gervasio, go straight and enjoy the ride!

So do we know if the swim in clock-wise or counter-clockwise? Also, is the swim correct in the above pic (going along the shore instead of out to sea )

Guaranteed swim is parallel to shore and not out to sea. Too much boat traffic/current/too far. Depending on the day I would count on swimming into the current one way, with it the other (currents are not constant, but likely to be there)

Anyone know the location of the Cozumel Convention Center?  I've Googled it and I get references to nearby hotels, but no "convention center".   I'm out of my skin excited!!!

All I know is that it's "in the heart of Downtown." Helpful, huh?

I think Cozy is a pretty small island... shouldn't be too much trouble finding the Convention center.

And I, too, am out of my skin excited !!!

Found the convention center! Its across from the Palace. I did google earth and its at the corner of Sur 17 and Rafel Melgar. Don't know how to post a pic or I'd put it in here. Look for Centro de Convenciones de Cozumel!

I finally got a response from the email I sent to the race director regarding special needs bags. I specifically referred to a bike tube for the bike SN and old socks (for armwarmers) in the run SN. His response was that things "like those you mention will be fine". He being Armando Galvez...

I never could find a reference to the specific rule or the exact purpose, but it appears that there have been numerous complaints at each race about "lost" SN bags - even though they very clearly tell you that you might not get them back. Which is true, at least for me in the only two IM distance races I've done; I've lost at least one of the SN bags each time. So, it would appear that this rule is designed to keep people from putting a laundry list of items in the SN bags and then freaking out when they can't find them later.

All that said, you'll each have to make your own decision on how you want to handle it. I'll likely at least throw in the sock armwarmers for my run SN bag, as even in a warm climate it can get a little chilly after dark and your body doesn't do such a great job of generating heat at that point Laughing

Speaking of getting dark, the website refers to sunset at 6:30 pm (I think I saw that...); but the weather sites that I've checked show the sun setting at just after 5 pm right now.

Intersting - 5:00 pm is early, so a sub-10 will be required to finish in the day light.  Newman!  Although, I imagine by that point most of us will be happy to get out of the sun by that point.

You had to mention the weather.  I had almost forgotten to start obsessively checking the almost inevitably incorrect long range forecast.  FYI, the 10 day is showing medium humidity and highs in the upper 70s for next week.

Thanks for the info !

for sock armwarmers -- should I just get tube socks and cut off the foot part?

Yep, old tube socks with the feet cut out make great throwaway armwarmers...

As far as weather (cwsiii's post)... unless the Coz forecasters are any better than the TX or OK forecasters, the only sure thing is that the forecast will change many times between now and race day. And probably still be wrong

In looking at the map above, I really hope they have thought this through. An in-water start has been confirmed.  If the swim is clockwise, things should spread out along the long straightaway going into the first turn.  If it is counter-clockwise, there will be carnage at the first turn buoy.
