Subject: Hi I'm from Sydney, Australia
Hi there everyone,

I live in Sydney, I did a small tiathlon last year and loved it when I crossed the finish line so I have decided to train and complete a bigger one this year. I have picked tri in Kurnell, Sydey on 22nd November.

I have used one of the programs on this site to get me started and have been following it pretty well until I have lost a bit of motiation over the past three days, due to work commitments and the cold. I'm a little curious what I should do if  miss a few days? I thought just miss the three days and get back to the day that I am up to and continue on.

I can swim well and can swim 2-3 ks with no real trouble, but I find that  am really slow at cycling and running. I'm not sure how to get faster should I do short sprints or longer runs/rdes.

I am really keen to train to evetually reach my major goal of a half ironman...

Anyway, I just thought that I would say hi... and that like this site because it has given me some tips and a great starting point for me to reach my goals - so a big thanks to everyone....

Hi there and welcome.  Your goals sound awesome.  When I get sick or tied up I don't stress too much and pick it up again on the other side.

I'm ready to start working on speed myself.  I haven't done too much research yet but I understand that speed comes from a combination of just putting in the miles plus aerobic training with heart rate zones.  I'm sure someone can lay that out better than I.

Good luck...

Welcome MissPink. You have landed at a great site. I'm sure others will chime in about following the program, but with respect to the bike my advice is to get out on it as much as possible. Short rides, long rides, fast rides, slow rides, it doesn't really matter. It's time in the saddle that will see the best gains in my opinion.
Again, welcome and good luck!

Hey there! Welcome to BT!  I lived in Sydney on Coogie Bay during my Junior Year Abroad.  We loved Charcoal Charlies and went to the horse races. I played some Rugby on Randwicks worst squad too.   Went to the cross and was a bad college boy.  Enjoyed VB.  What a great time.
Great goals for  a HIM.   If you need any advice look me up!

Hi Miss Pink! Welcome to BT!

Im guessing you may have done one of the enticer races around over summer last year - whih onedid you do?

Kurnell is always a fun race, really supportive and fun! You will have a blast - all reports of it are so good. Winter is always a bit hard to train so if youve just missed a few days just consider those missed and keep going with the program as planned.

November is a little while away... so Im assuming you are probably doing basic fitness right now with a goal to a bit more race specific stuff as you get closer and the weather gts better!

If I can help let me know - nice to have a local BTer!!!!

In terms of cycling - if you are starting out consistency is the biggest factor... making sure you are riding and running regularly up to race distance as as a minimum (but you will find you do more than that on the bike Im sure... even if you arent there yet).
