Subject: RE: Woman almost drowns while training for IM Wisconsin burhed - 2009-11-16 10:41 PM I hate to bring this subject back to the top of the list. I wasn't able to find any info as to the reason for her death. Was it an underlying cause? I don't mean to sound selfish but if there is something that the rest of the tri community could learn from it would be good to hear. I was friends with Adam Nickel, the young man who died at the finish of the Little Rock marathon a couple of years ago. He had a very hard to detect heart defect. It's these things that make you realize you should get a medical evaluation on occasion. The last I heard is they were performing several additional tests to see if anything unusual happened. My guess is they have the results by now. The death was ruled an accidental drowning. Apparently the woman had done multiple triathlons, but was tired going into the swim, the water was choppy and she really disliked OWS. The moral of the story for me is to swim with a kayaker. I think swimming with 3-4 other people might be ok for some, but not me. I need someone watching over me while in the water. |
