Coming up from Florida for a tri-cation.  Lived in Michigan my first 25 years and went to GVSU, so I'm super excited to get back to the "west side"...bringing my new bride to race with me

I am in for the OLY.  Hope the waves aren't so bad that they cancel or shorten the swim.

Have they cancelled the swim in the past?  It sounds weird to me that they would cancel a swim in Lake Michigan?  I was in St. Petersburg for St. Anthony's this year and they shortened the swim, but they were in the ocean with 7 foot swells.

Yes a few times that I know of. Sure it's just a lake but it get's some nasty waves and under tow in it. We have been having a lot of high winds this spring/summer so if you're planning to race it, be ready to run and not swim.

I'm in for the sprint.  I swam in  the lake this morning.  It would have been perfect conditions for the tri.  A little chop, but not bad and the water temp is perfect.

Yes.  I think today was about 71 degrees.  I will be shocked if it stays that warm.

High 60's is warm for Lake Michigan, so definitely WetSuit legal.

Went for a Lake MI swim Monday and today, hoping to make some last-minute increases to my swim time.  As was already stated, the water is much warmer than it was last year at this time.  I'll be really disappointed if the swim is affected by winds.  But I also think the uncertainty is worth the excitement of starting a tri in the am on the big lake!

Water temps have dropped 10 degrees in the last 2 days.  Monday it was 73, today it's 63.  This is according to surf grand haven.

Don't use current lake temps for any type of planning.  One good blow from the east pushes all that warm water out and lets the nice brisk water take it's place.  My wife did this race a few years ago (before I started joining her) and all week the water was in the upper 60's/low 70's.  We had a rainstorm the night before the race  and on race morning the lake was smooth as glass, and 53 degrees.....in July.  They almost cancelled the swim just because of the water temp.

Good luck to all who are preparing for this tri.

A Sprint Tri for Dummies question:

In measuring the swim leg of .5 k swim...is that beach to beach or bouy to bouy?

Just got back from a swim in the lake and a volunteer meeting for the kids tri that's on Saturday.  So far 28 kids have signed up.  My husband will be on a blue wave runner Sunday. Be sure to give him a wave as you swim by.    The forecast is looking great  Good luck everyone &  have fun!

The swim distance is shore to shore.

I just gotta say, I am so excited for this race.  I hope the weather is as predicted.  Water temp right now is 69. Low will be in the mid 60's for an air temp the next few days with minimal winds.  Here's hoping.

I'm not sure where you got your water temp from.  Was in this am to cool off after yoga and swam last night.  I wore my wet suit just for the practice, but sure didn't need it.  City beach is reporting 76 degrees.

I'm more nervous for this one than usual.  Good luck everyone.  Heather is out of the race w/ Plantar facitis (SP?)  But I'll be "racing" for sure!
