What would the LBS charge to extricate the squirrel and true the wheel?

How quick can they fit you in?

I suggested the jaws of life, but there doesn't look like much life in that critter.

we always used to joke about little dogs chasing us being "spoke breakers". I guess that's proof that they really won't break spokes

Dogs are bigger than squirrels.

How'd the cyclist fare? Seems like that would bring your ride to a sudden, untimely halt, wouldn't be very pleasant if you had a decent head of steam going....

If it happened down here, I would call ahead to the LBS so they would be prepared and everything would be in place when I got there (i.e. they could start the roux for the gumbo).

Reminds me of the time when I was about 11, riding home from swim practice on my 10-speed down a big hill with my shoes tied to the handlebars, when one of the shoes wedged between the tire and fork.

That is a freaking hilarious comment!

Jim, I had a similar experience riding to my first day of school in 7th grade.  Steep hill leading down to the school, must have been doing 25mph when I went to stop my front brake (and my front brake only) completely locked up and I went head over heels over the handlebars right in front of everybody waiting outside the front doors to go in.  Scarred me for life.  Well, not really.  Driving the car through the back of the garage wall did much more damage.

If you go to slowtwitch, they also have a thread on this, except with more pictures.  It broke the fork.

I saw it there, too... I'll be nice and save everyone else the time.

Edit- I just realized I've got those same tires.  I suppose I should be glad to know they'll stand up to a pretty good impact.

I think it wasn't a fair fight with the bike being in a much higher weight class. The squirrel showed some heart though.

HA HA.

that reminds me of when a deer ran into my car (yes side impact). the funny part is my insurance, they declared him an "uninsured moterist." had it not been for my uninsured moterist insurance i would have been in a bad way.

Were you hurt? Because all uninsured motorist insurance covers is medical bills if you are hurt in an accident with an uninsured motorist. And then, only if you're regular medical coverage doesn't cover it, or you don't have it. It's the biggest scam the insurance industry has going.
