Arizona Senior Olympics
40F / 4C
Total Time = 1h 12m 2s
Overall Rank = 4/29
Age Group = F30-34
Age Group Rank = 1/1
Pre-race routine:

Up early, threw the kids in the car and off to the race.
Event warmup:

Tried my best to stay warm. A nasty cold front moved thru yesterday, it had to be about 40 degrees at race start.
Swim
  • 08m 55s
  • 450 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

They started the non-seniors first, so I was in the first wave of swimmers. Forgot to put my swim goggles on until the end of lap 1. This is the best swim I have done. I felt relaxed, except when the guy doing a version of breast stroke in the lane next to me kicked me.
What would you do differently?:

I was happy with my swim. Remember to put my goggles on.
Transition 1
  • 01m 40s
Comments:

This was a bad transition. Once again my bike seemed to be in a really bad spot. I was freezing and had a hard time getting stuff on and off. Then my 4 year old ran into the transition area because he just had to tell me something. The officials yelled at him to get out, then he cried, so I was distracted.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I was just so cold that my fingers weren't working well.
Bike
  • 39m 49s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.08 mile/hr
Comments:

Realize it's time to ditch the old pedals that came with my bike for some pegs. I struggled with the head wind.
What would you do differently?:

Get a better bike shirt, mine is not very aero.
Transition 2
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

This transition was quicker, all I had to do was remove my helmet (an advantage of having those old pedals).

Run
  • 20m 38s
  • 3 miles
  • 06m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

I really enjoyed the run, even tho I was lonely. I had one lady in front of me and I just worked on catching up to her, but I didn't quite make it and she crossed the line before me. I was really please with my run. I don't think I have run a sub 7 min/mile since high school.
Post race
Warm down:

I just hung out and waited for results. They had my name up as a male at one point, then changed it. I got a kick out of watching all the seniors finish, hope I'm as active at that age.
I have to laugh, I got first in my AG, but I was my age group-just me, LOL!
I also got to meet Chile7473 (Andy) after the race, a very cool guy, he won his age group.
After the race, we went to the fanfest at the spring training facility across the street. Sammy Sosa threw my son a ball and he was stoked!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Maybe still having the cold but I felt pretty good while I was out there.

Event comments:

This was an all ages tri in conjunction with the senior olympics. There were definitely more seniors than younger folk. It was a small tri, maybe less than 100 people.
