Total Time = 1h 25m 49s
Overall Rank = 15/29
Age Group = 16-40
Age Group Rank = 5/8
Pre-race routine:

Up at 600. Bagel, banana protein shake. Arrived early to setup bike and transition area.
Event warmup:

Stretching and walking around.
Swim
  • 17m 9s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 17s / 100 meters
Comments:

Good course. Cut my heel on entry or exit not sure when. Only discovered injury after event was over. Lots of saftey people course well marked.
What would you do differently?:

Like everyone states swim more. Focus on the front crawl more. I swam a lot back stroke and side stroke.
Transition 1
  • 02m 14s
Comments:

Transistion are not record on chip. And I forgot to start the next lap until I was pedaling. Happy with T1
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. But remember to hit the lap button on the watch
Bike
  • 39m 19s
  • 12.61 miles
  • 19.08 mile/hr
Comments:

Good bike segment. Had bike malfunction for first km or so. I couldn't get the front derailleur up to the big ring. I ended up adjusting the cable on the fly and left it in the big ring for the entire ride.
What would you do differently?:

Double or triple check the bike shifting. I felt I could have went a little hard on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

Good T2 smooth. Clipped in and out left shoes on and ran with shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Practice jumping on and off bike. More the off part. Maybe buy tri shoes has the road shoes are hard to mount when left in the pedals.
Run
  • 26m 40s
  • 3.17 miles
  • 08m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

My shins flared up 500 meters into the run. I couldn't figure it out as they never flare up. Later learn that I had a decent cut on my heel that was likely made me run a little different. Run pace was well below my brick paces. I was annoyed with myself until I finished and saw the blood on my sock. The cut wasnt to bad but enough to affect my stride.
What would you do differently?:

Ha ha not cut my foot. I can't really say as I didn't run my normal pace because of the cut.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around with the kids. Ran the finish line when my wife arrived with the kids in tow.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Cut my damn foot.

Event comments:

First real race. So I thought it was well organized. I've ran numerous running events and this event was well organized. If time permits I'll be back next year

Good race!

You likely did work harder on the bike than you thought since you were having shifting problems...this then...also probably affected your run.

Interesting that the cut was on your heel...odd place for a swimming injury.

I was able to sort the shifting problems after the first mile or so. And on this course it starts with a nice climb away from the town so I would have been I. The smaller gear to climb the hill. I'm fairly certain. I cut my heel when I was getting out of the water. I stood up and had hard time catching my balance (even with ear plugs in). I took a step or two backwards and must have cut my heel. It's seems to be better give it another couple of days and ill try a light jog. Still going to bike though.

Got an email from the race director today stating the run was a little longer than 5 km (300 meters). Tweaked the race report to reflect same. Also uploaded my data to Garmin Connect and looks like my bike was faster than I thought. I think the T1 and T2 times were added to bike overall time.

I'd say for your first race this was a great effort. Nothing ever seems to go perfect and you kept cool and carried on, nicely done.
I agree with whoever mentioned working hard on the bike affecting your run. Hope the foot is all healed up by now!

Congrats on finishing your first tri!
