How's everybody in Canada feeling?  (just my opinion, but I think the NHL should only play in cities where there is ice in the winter)

I know life is different up North, but I can't say that I really care that much about the season being cancelled.  Haven't really missed it.  Didn't really watch much other than the Stanley Cup Finals...oh well...there is always

BASEBALL !!!!

Preseason has already started for some!!!

I'm saddened that the NHL has gone and done the unthinkable, but I'm not sad for myself, although I can't say I won't miss it a lot.  I'm sad for my 7yo son, who lives and breathes hockey, and wonders every time he sees footage of a game, wonders if there is a game on, and then seeing the dejection in his face when I tell him no, there are no games this year.  I'm sad that he won't have the opportunity to sit and watch a game with his dad, like I had with mine, when I was growing up.  Now only were games entertainment and a chance to for us, but it was also a chance for his 7yo sponge of a mind to learn some of the finer points of hockey.

Although we still have our backyard rink and are weekend youth hockey league, there was nothing like staying up past our bedtimes (both of ours), watching a few periods and having him fall asleep in my lap. I'd like to say I won't be back as a fan, but I know that's not true.  I can forgive, but I won't forget.

Chris

The announcement today made me pretty cranky.  I'm totally peeved at how far greediness has gone in this situation - I just want to see some good hockey!!   Oh well, guess I'll be following the DU Pioneers for the rest of the season...

my now 4 year old daughter was mesmerised by hockey when she was a 3 y/o. But now, I don't know if she'll ever know what it's like to watch the Hawks because the way I look at it...( I posted this elsewhere and copied it over)

think this is the end of the NHL point blank.

MLB had to juice the balls and have the Sosa McGwire HR battle to get people interested again after the 94 strike, and baseball still isn't the same as it was prior to that. And it's still a longer way away from what baseball was prior to the 82 strike.

Hockey doesn't have the same luxury, it Doesn't have anywhere close to the following in this country MLB did/does, outside of the diehards like us, no one cared to begin with that there was a strike.

Face it folks, the ramifications of this are clear...the NHL is over.

I don't know if this will kill the NHL or get it to scale back to a manageable level.  I think it grew too big too fast.  My hope is that this will help to re-organize it to a more manageable level, like back in the late '80's, early '90's when I started to follow it closely.

A Canadians' perspective.........
The NHLPA can goto hell.
The NHL can follow.

I'm so sick of the roller coaster ride. It's cancelled! No, it's not! Wait! It's cancelled! NO! Un-cancell it! Hold on, Wayne and Mario are here to save the day! Dammit! And so on, and so on, and so on..........

It really pisses me off when I hear the NHLPA say it's "not about money". Then what the hell is it about??!? They then go off to Europe and play in some of the minor leagues here for a hell of a lot less money than they would be making under any salary cap. Plus, they are taking work from the guys who mormally are playing there! What the heck is up with that?
The owners started the problem, by overpaying players that were at best "midpackers". I mean really, is Todd Marchant of the CBJ really worth 3.2mil/yr?!?

I miss hockey. I loved watching it while on the trainer, it made the time fly by for me. Will I watch it when it comes back? Yes. I believe that me and the other 33 million 'nucks will. But the really money is south of the 49th parallel........and they don't seem to care.
RIP NHL.

National Hockey League?  More like National Hookie League!  Not much of a loss to me because I stopped watching hockey when the league was comprised of only six teams and Jacques Plante was goalie for the Habs!

Hockey's loss is the NFL's, the NBA's, and the NCAA Basketball's win.  The NFL televised the Combine and Free Agency deals are all the buzz right now.  The NBA, usually just a sideline this time of year, is getting lots of coverage.  The king of Sports TV though is NCAA Basketball.  Even Spring Training is getting lots of coverage to fill the void left by the NHL.

If the players thought the owners were being unfair, just wait till that salary cap offer drops to $25m when talks reopen.  The players union made a grave error in letting the season get cancelled.

I personally can't wait until next year. BRING ON THE REPLACEMENT PLAYERS!!
Open up the teams so anyone can play (nhlpa or non), make the best teams you can under you salary cap, and let the whiners who think they deserve 10+mil/yr try and get it in Europe!
They'll come crawling back...... and then pay them what they're worth........grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Millionaires fighting with millionaires, while the average joe suffers. I suggest junior hockey if you have access to it. Money has'nt corrupted the game at this level. I am lucky enough to have a junior team here where I live, the Peterborough Petes.Go Petes Go!
