Gretchen, I'm so very sorry for your loss. It's heartbreaking to lose a pet. She had an amazing life and lots of great runs with her momma <3
Glad you were able to get some workouts in that day, and makeup workouts in within a day or two. Sending you love!

I SWAM!!!!

Had my PT session Friday morning and got a couple stretches to do. I'd also gone on about a 1.5 mile walk the day before, not knowing if I was allowed, but I was feeling pretty good and needed to move my body. My PT confirmed that I could walk, and also that I could swim.

I went up to PA Friday to see my niece's lacrosse game (it's playoffs). It was absolutely thrilling and I thought I was going to need a cardioman myself...how parents deal with this stuff on a regular basis I have no idea. They won 16-15 and play again tomorrow (gonna head up for the game after work again).

I came home after b/c I wanted to go to masters practice Saturday morning. I got there late (per usual) and found that they were doing their first outdoor practice in the pouring rain. I was not excited, though when I got out to the outdoor pool, the water was wonderfully warm and it was actually quite lovely. I got in about 1600 yds, which was a very good (re)start. I did not bring a towel though and they don't have towel service outside, so that was fun...

Yesterday I went on a very long walk. I was just going to do about 2 miles, but then ran into a neighbor and ended up doing closer to 4. Felt pretty good, though my hip is definitely a little fatigued today. I still got up and did about 1.5 miles this morning.

A couple months ago, I got some bloodwork done that showed my cholesterol was high. I just redid that bloodwork today and it's back to normal! Feels good to know the healthy changes I've made had an impact.

So overall a pretty good few days, and I'm so happy to be able to move my body again. Going to masters again tonight, and aiming to do at least a short walk each morning this week.

Great that those healthy changes are paying off!

I knowm watching sport gets my HR way up and I don’t even know anyone on the team!

The race is at the weekend, you’ll have to wait.

Had a nice swim today, at a decent pace for being on my own and with loads of turns as I just swim back and forth, don’t want to venture out on my own.

@Nicole. That bloodwork feedback is great news. Nothing is as motivating to keep on going as seeing some success. Nice to see you're able to get moving again. You're going to be leading the pack into T1 when you are able to get back to normal after your enforced swim focus.

@Mike. I think health system speeds is more a global thing than a USA thing. Definitely sounds familiar. You have to think though, if something concerning had come up, you would have been contacted ASAP. So the fact it's dragging on probably (hopefully?) means you're going to be given the all clear. Nice to see you back to something like normal training.

@Nat. I'm going 1:28. the adrenaline of race day is definitely going to give you a bit of a speed boost, so you'll be ahead of what you think is 'realistic'

Me? Started the week with an easy 60 minute jog on the treadmill and a bit of a stretch. Same planned for tonight (2 days easy after Sundays big workout) and a 70 minute tempo run penciled in for tomorrow morning.

Keep it up team.

Great work, Andrew! Consistency is key (especially in the winter, which I know you are heading into).
How's the "shed" add-on going?!

Got in a 2.5 mile walk this morning in the sunshine. Glorious!
Also made it to masters practice (a little late, got caught working and lost track of time). Got in 2000 solid yards. I got there just in time for the main set. I'm definitely slow right now, but am excited to build. Set below in case anyone wants to try it out:

All my 50s were at the same time, and I had about 15 seconds rest, so I'd choose a time for you that allows that.
100s were a minute longer
150s were 2:10 longer
200s were about 3:30 longer (so we had a good amount of rest after the longer bits)

@Andrew:  yes, I'm becoming less and less concerned as the days pass (and I continue to ramp up my training without any issues); still want to know what the hell happened

@Gretchen:  forgot to mention in my previous post - sorry for losing your pup...I know she was a running companion for you for a long time

@Nathalie:  you are I are going to prove my hypothesis that for an experienced triathlete you only need a few swim sessions over maybe 2-3 weeks to put up an acceptable time in a sprint triathlon - guess we'll find out!

@Nicole:  I love swimming outdoors in the rain when the pool is warm - LOL on the towels that must have been cold; I forget my towel all the time when I got to the Y so I wind up using a shirt or sweatshirt

Passed another self-test this morning with some interval running on the treadmill, 1 x 4' @ 5K+ pace and 2 x 1' @ mile race pace, appropriate HR levels and hard respiration, then did a whole bunch of core work (ouch).  I have two more days before we head to Hilton Head (flying so no bike) so I'll be riding The Stealth Bomber a couple of times, who finally has race wheels (front Flo 64 and a rear custom-built Flo 90 with a powertap) - I'll take a picture when I get a chance.  ETA:  by the way, valve extenders are a real PITA - it takes me like 10 minutes to inflate my tires

@Andrew--great job on the running consistency!

@Mike--glad to hear you are feeling better and getting in sessions with intensity without another episode. Like you, though, I'd want to know what happened!

@Nicole--swimming and walking, love the low intensity stuff to keep you moving as you heal!

@Nat-I'm with Mike, 1:28--race day adrenaline!

I'm having a scheduled rest week, which is nice. Yesterday was 2000 yds in the pool. That's it. I have no idea what to do with my time. Today was supposed to be a 90' tempo run, but about 2' after starting the tempo part of the run I vomited spectacularly in the yard of an elderly couple as they watched from their porch, where they were having morning coffee. I don't know why, only that it was sudden onset and totally unexpected. I decided to walk home after that and just be happy I didn't continue to ralph all over the neighborhood. I was queasy for the next hour or so. Not sure what was going on, but I decided not to push myself. Moved my 3:00 ride (not sure how that is a rest week!) to tomorrow to just let my stomach settle. Looking forward to my first race of the season on Saturday--a little local sprint tri that is usually good fun. I have to think about my pacing and goals at some point this week, but not today.

Thanks. And you're right, consistency is everything in this sport.

After 2 weekends of nothing due to inclement weather, and family commitments we made some progress again over the weekend. The stairs to get down from the lawn to the flat area we excavated are now in. Saturday was digging, lining up posts and concreting. Sunday swinging a hammer and building the thing. Not too bad, maybe 3 hours work each day.

This coming weekend the 'weather dependant' plan is 1-2 trailer loads of scoria for drainage behind the retaining wall and backfill. So a decent spade and wheelbarrow 'strength session' coming up. - how do I turn that into a training peaks green box?

@Mike, 1 mile race pace intervals will sure get that heart rate up. Good to see you came through with flying colours. Back to Florida again? I'm away for work again the next couple of days, forecast has less than 40F expected... almost as pleasant as florida.

@Gretchen. Random throwing up at the start of your run does not sound great. Stopping and walking home absolutely the right call. Hope you're not coming down with something. Although, if you are the rest week is the time for it I guess.

@Nicole. That's a decent swim session. Nice to be active again.

Me, last 24 hours has gone as scheduled. easy hour on the treadmill Tuesday evening, and a 70' (ok, 66') real run before work today. Included 2x18' tempo effort. Much more fun to get outside and do a real run. So I'm glad coach Andrew won the negotiations in my head at 5:15 this morning. Was a close run thing to be fair.
