The Kitsilano pool would be cool for practicing with a wetsuit. they say it's heated but it still ain't real warm, is it. And if you want to experience serious hypothermia, just hop over the side and swim in the Pacific. Is UBC still running their triathalon in the spring? I remember doing that race with a skiff of snow on the ground at race start. The big post-race ticket was a spot in the aquatic center hot tub. You've never seen so many bodies in a jacuzzi.
I do see some people swimming with wetsuits on in Kits pool, but it isn't really necessary. It's pretty warm. The water at Kits beach averages around 65F in the summer, I think. There's actually an open water swim club in the spring and summer that swims in Kits beach for their training. Once a year people do it without wetsuits.

Yep, the UBC tri is still on and I think it's the biggest indoor (swim ) tri in North American. It was held last Sunday. I remember seeing 3 race reports, mine included. Believe it or not it was actually sunny and warm.
