runs_with_jasper - 2009-11-02 8:50 AM How much is Door County 1/2?

Rob had mentioned both of us doing Racine - I think that is a ridiculous amount of money.  I will have to look into Door County also, I think.

They'll announce the 2010 fees in December.  The 2009 half was $140.

Well, not as cheap as SOR was, but still a lot more reasonable than $200. I'm waiting for info on that one, but I'm thinking I may go High Cliff this year. It's cheapola - $85 until February.

(Don't these people know these are tough economic times? :P )

I'm going to Door County.  I do have loyalty to that race, but Racine is much further for me and I just can't reason spending so much on a half distance.

Racine would still cost less because I would have a place to stay, but I am still up in the air with what I want to do next year...

Nothing yet, just a rumor I heard.  I did email someone who might know something and I'll post anything I find out here.

I'm bummed because I was really looking forward to doing some major 70.3 Pr'ing but I feel as if Ironman will alter the course to make sure that it is a true 70.3 course. At least the run course is flat unlike Lake Geneva's unrelenting attack of hill after hill. Well see what I decide but I do know that it is close enough to me that I will not need to get a hotel which I would for Door County so the cost might be alright, not too sure yet

Brendon and I signed up.  We figured if we went to DC, we would stay for 2 nights...and then that would drive the price past Racine's cost anyway.  Racine is closer for us.   And according to the IM "plan" we are using, that is a suggested weekend to do a race.  It would have been nice to have SOR stay SOR costwise...the hubcap likes the idea of the point to point swim as this will be his first year of  doing triathlons.

I decided to do Door County.  I am staying at the state campground and I think Robert and Wendy (Bertgwen and Gwenbert) and perhaps Deanna will be too.  Between the price  increase and the rough roads, I thought it would be a better idea to do Door County than Racine.

My theory is the water will be warmer than Racine too.

I was strongly leaning towards DC since I heard great things about it, and I wanted to make a long weekend out of it.  I think the cost comes out even when factoring travel, lodging, etc.  Still...more than likely doing DC to combine training and vacation.

There are several campsites available at Potawatomi State Park and we will be camping.  That way the lodging isn't too expensive.

Camping is how we do it, too.  Ususally at Peninsula State Park and then staying for a few days of vacation after the race.

I didn't register for Door County last year until late May. However, it is gaining popularity, so I would maybe try earlier. This year I am planning on registering right as it opens in early January.
