Hey, I figured it out! The first photo is my family. The second one is me returning from a half century Tour de Femme breast cancer ride FREEZING!! By the way, I thought now was as good a time as any to put the Jayhawk as my signature photo. If any of you follow college basketball you'll know what I am talking about. GO JAYHAWKS!!!!!!!!!

Kansas huh?

Well, I went to George Mason, who beat Kansas State, who beat Kansas. That makes me the winner!

Actually, I was rooting for you guys to win that one -- I like the Jayhawks a lot better.

What a wonderful family you have! How old are your kids?
I have 2 kids too, a 5 year old girl that does everything around the house, just like her mom. The 8 year old boy loves to bike and play hockey. On Saturdays for the last year they have swimming lessons at the YMCA. With a bit of running and a father that attempts to tri, my son is looking if he can enter a small kids triathlon this summer. That's all I want from this tri thing, a good and healthy example for my kids :-)
Have a good race this weekend!

Thaks you Igo,

The girls are 5 and 7. The 7 year old is signing up for her first kid's tri in June. It's so cute. They do 50yds in the pool, 0.35miles running (down the hill from the pool to the bike section) 1.5 miles on the bike around the lake, and then repeat the 0.35miles on the run back up the hill. She is so excited. I agree that giving them the example is the best reward. They sure do keep you busy though don't they? I have found that when I take the oldest one to dance 2x a week I can steal that hour each time and either run or ride. It is working out nice, now that the day ares getting longer. I don't know how you do it.

Kids definite keep me busy and I would not want it any other way. They grow up so fast.

That is why all the tri training has to be done before 6PM, which is dinner time for the family. I make the best from the work commute, by biking (30-45min) or running (80min). The kids sleep at 9PM and that's the time me and my wife sleep. I am out of the door at 5AM, 6 AM in the YMCA pool for my swim class. Sometimes I cram a noon hour jog or indoor bike. In the weekends I only manage a 2 -3hr in on Sunday morning before family wakes up.

All is going well up till now. If I can only get my wife interested in running and swimming....

ME TOO! ME TOO! I'M COMING!!!!!!

First race of the season tomorrow. The butterflies are stampeding! I am not even going to pretend like I'm getting any work done today. I have received so many "inspire me's " from fellow BTers that are doing the same race. This is so much fun. I love BT!

Best of luck on your race Ben. I am excited to read all the race reports this weekend. Stay tuned!!!!!!

Hey guys,

First of all, thank you so much for your inspirations. They were great! I am very lucky to have you guys.

With the exception of the run, the race went really well. You couldn't have asked for a better day, gorgeous. I did my exact training time in the pool, and 53 minutes on the bike. My goal was 50 minutes, so we'll say there were 3 minutes wasted with my damn shoe! (see race report) After that, the run was awful! I guess I am not fully recovered from surgery. I couldn't run! I could feel where my abdominal muscles were "pushed out of the way" during surgery, and it didn't feel like they had re-attached yet. I guess I pushed so hard on the first two events that my abs couldn't do a third. When I would try to run I felt like I was pushing muscles against a balloon! Nothing pushed back. Oh well. At least I know what the problem was, and it wasn't that I just bonked! I will share photos soon.

The hubby did outstanding. Even swimming side stroke for most of the swim he beat my swim time by 10 seconds. Aaaaagghh! He totally kicked butt on the bike (as he always does.) He is a beast here. Although, bragging rights for me, I was only 11 minutes behind him. He didn't have as good of a run has he could have, but even so, he was 15th out of 44 in his age group of 35-39, and 74th overall from 242 men. What a stud.

For comparison, I was 18th out of 32 in my age group of 30-34, and 136th out of 205 women. Not so hot. But I was 85th out of 205 for my bike. I'm only a stud in training.

p.s. I even got to meet some fellow BTers that were doing the race. That was very cool.

You and your hubby are STUDS!! Great job!

I am more proud of you that you didn't try and be the TOUGH chick and run it out through the pain! That takes a lot of courage, and discipline! GOOD FOR YOU!!!

As far as another mentoring group, I am in the process of getting it set up! I WILL FOR SURE LET YOU KNOW WHEN I GET IT!!! If not, we can keep this alive! Not a problem....

Here is a good one for you!

Steve,

I agree, that cop was totally out of line. Before the cops start giving bikers a hard time, they need to make sure the drivers understand all the rules of the road concerning cyclists. I can't count the number of close calls I've had with cars. I'd fight this if I were you.

I know, you could organize a charity 5K to raise funds to pay for all the misdirected tickets cyclists get. I'll support.
