Subject: Swim help in Central Ohio
Hello everyone! My wife and I are pretty new to this sport and have been tossing around the idea of getting some help with our swimming. We are actually both decent on the bike and working on the run, but awfully slow swimmers. We are both comfortable in the water but would just like a little help with technique/efficiency and maybe speed as a side effect. Anybody know anyone in the Columbus area that might be interested? We wouldn't mind paying a reasonable price if necessary.

Thanks!

Your best bet might be to look for a Master swim class in the area. Check around, I think OSU does some.

I am going to guess you could call the YMCA around here and get the swim coaches phone number.  Granted they work with kids thru teens but the ones I have met have college swim histories and appear to be outgoing.  I have not asked for their personal coaching yet but am amping up to do so.

Hello!

I'm down here close to Cincinnati, but we have a county Y which offers private swim lessons for adults.  It's $60 for four 30 minute sessions.  I would definitely start with a local Y first.

I am a very, very new swimmer and I've been reading Terry Laughlin's Total Immersion.  I am so glad I did before I got too far ahead.  It's so enlightening and would be a wonderful supplement to whatever personal instruction you might receive.

Best wishes...

The Y in Hilliard (West Columbus) just started up their training team again. I went to the intro meeting last night, and there seemed to be a number of people looking for swimming help. The team (or club, I was confused) swim coach is available Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:15-9:15pm. The fee is $150 ($100 if you're a Y member). Their next meeting is next Thursday @ 7pm (the Y is on Cosgray in Hilliard), though I'm not clear on if there's swimming that night, or if it starts later.

Seemed like a good, small group of folks, definitely swimming help available, also running and nutrition if that's of value to you?

Is the training group a Tri training group?

Apologies, the clinic was canceled this year because there were not at least 15 participants.

From the email though, it sounds like there's a tri-club starting:

From the email I received:
" I would like to invite you to think about becoming part of the Hilliard Triathlon Club that some of last year's clinic partcipants have started. There is no fee to join the club, but you will have to become a member of USAT eventually, because in order for the club to be sanctioned, all members must be USAT members. Of course, the club is only at the beginning stages, so as you are checking it out, you don't have to worry about that at the beginning. The club meets at Iacono's Pizza on Cemetery Rd on the second Wednesday of each month, and we are thinking of adding a second meeting each month that would feature many of the same speakers who would have been presenters at the clinic. The club website is still under construction, but can be found at www.hilliardtriathlonclub.org"

And the Hilliard Y appears to have a Master's swim team too:
"If you would like swim coaching, you are all welcome to join the Master's swim team at the Y. The cost, I believe, is $35.00, and the team is open to anyone from novice level through expert. "

Sorry for the false alarm

Tautery. I sent you a PM to ask a question. Thanks

Did they say a time for the meetings?  The website didn't mention a time.

Looks like they are doing this "Triatlon Club" format at all the Y's in Central Ohio. I saw the flyer at my Y in Gahanna and just didn't sign up because I am dealing with a hamstring pull. They backed it up with a mini-tri as well this weekend. When I finally get back to the gym I definately will be looking into it... Even if it is Hillard I may still give it a whirl.

You might also want to contact COTT (Central Ohio Triathletes in Training). They are not a TNT team and I have done a couple group rides with some of the guys and gals out of Hoover Resevoir in Westerville. I know that they used to train out of the Easton LTF (LifeTime Fitness) but I do not know if that has changed.

I have been working with a coach at Sawmill Atletic Club (sorry, now called Premiere). I did see something on the following web site:

http://www.osutriathlon.com/

They have sessions on Monday and Wednesday and it costs $55.00 for a yearly membership. Bets of luck!
