Subject: first outside run of the year
(Kansas City) So today it was 61 degrees out at 1:30pm... i decided that it would be a great day to get my first out side run in.... but there were also 15-20mile per hour winds with gusts up to 35. I did it any ways only to have my ipod run out of bateries at 8 min. but still kept trucking... i feel prety good about todays run. 36min 4.12 miles

this brought up a question while i was thinking to my self with out music... How do you determine how hard to swim/bike/run in a "b/c" race's.... if its not your A race. do you just go threw the motions or leave a little back?

I still race hard in B/C races...I just don't really train specifically or taper for them as I would an 'A' race.

The only difference between an "A" race and a "B" or "C" is the level of preperation and tapering.  The efforts are the same, it is just the build up before it that is different.

And congrats on getting outside.  I also had a nice balmy run this morning - 31 degrees with light rain!!

x2

If I'm racing I'll go as hard as I can on that day realizing I may not be up to a PR that day due to training. Right now concentrating on swimming/biking so much I wouldn't come close to a PR for say a 5K but would still bust it out there trying.

61 degrees!! lucky! it hasn't been over 25 - 30 degrees here in months. i'm pretty used to running on ice/snow and in around 15 degree weather by now. . .

Here in central PA my weekend running buddy would rather not be out in temps below 35 degrees. I usually don't run if the temps are below 20. Since I only started running in October of last year, I kinda forget what it's like to not run without three layers and the ever expensive base layer (Thank God for Under Armor and Nike Pro!) Only raced two 5k's to date, and they were in December. Am doing my third this Sat. and the forcast is in the low 40's. It sounds like a heatwave; won't know how to act. The first sprint tri's I'm aiming/training for are in July and August. I can't even imagine right now doing events in the heat of summer.
