Are speed suits allowed in any triathlon? Or just ironman races?

More specifically, will they be allowed in the Florida 70.3 race? I'm a gear head and would like to use one if they are legal.

Also, would anyone who's used one recommend/not recommend for a half iron? (I'm an average swimmer).

Thanks,
T.J.

Only races they are not allowed in are ITU races.

As far as I know, you will able to use a wetsuit at the FL 70.3 race ..... if I recall correctly they have in the last few years.  Perhaps someone can chime in that has done it recently?

For the past three years, the FL 70.3 race held in Disney in May was NOT wetsuit legal. In 2007 water temperature was over 82 degrees easily, however, I don't remember the exact temperatures. All I know it was HOT HOT HOT. So I wouldn't count on the race being wetsuit legal this year.

I did the race last year and wetsuits were NOT allowed, water was too warm.  We were allowed to use our skin/speed suits.  I used my blueseventy zeropoint3 suit.

Sounds like a ton of people pee-d in the water.

Thanks for all the great responses.

I guess I'll start reading up on reviews of speedsuits to get one in April.

Can anybody recommend a good wetsuit? I will probably being doing Steelhead and was told a wetsuit is a very good idea, as the water temp can vary greatly.

I went to All3Sports and tried on a bunch of different wetsuits. From my experience, each brand can fit differently on your body type.

I ended up with the QR Hydrofull and absolutely LOVE IT!

I assume that you have your race suit on under it and you just strip it in T1. correct? How easy is the "strip?"
