Great race. The race is put on by Endorfun which means it's done right. Austin is a great city to hang out in.  I agree with Fleeb, the bike course is fantastic. My avatar is actually me on the run course last year. I was commenting on the bike course.

If you can commit to the training time, go for it.

My favorate Half by far. The bike course is awesome, the run has hard last year (heat and the hill), but it makes the course unique and challenging. The event is top notch, well run and just plain fun.

I'm still recovering from this race but you should be a part of the first year as an official 70.3.  It's a great course, and very well organzied and supported.

I signed up for this when it was announced that it was going to be an official Ironman event. This will also be my first HIM. I am really excited about it. People at work think I am crazy for doing tris in the first place, you should have seen their faces when I said I was signed up for a HIM.

So what is all this I hear about Quadzilla... The Hill of Truth? hehe

Go for it! I'm signed up, it will be my first half. In fact, the only tri I have behind me is the Longhorn sprint from last year. It was so much fun and I loved the course that I signed up for the half when they cancelled the sprint (just a small jump, right?). Anyway, I figure we have months to train for it at this point. I'm more excited for this race then any of the others I'm doing this year.

How is the bike course? Rolly, Flat, climbing? Anyone know the elevation in feet by chance?

The website did say the run had a few hills at the end, are they bad?

How is it compared to a fast course like Florida 70.3?

I won't be there this year, but hopefully the weather is a little cooler this October. That run course was baking.

Whats the deal with Quadzilla? I read about it on the website. Should I be scared?

It also appears I need to find some hills to train on for the bike....

only be scared if the temp is 95ish again, which I doubt, Even though I complained about the run hill that day, after a couple weeks of thinking about it ...I think the heat did me in way more than the hills.  [and not eating enough on the bike]

It be interesting to hear others opinion but I thought the only tough hills were the last two at the end right around mile 53 or 55. Maybe I was thinking I'm almost done and then seeing the hills, got to me mentally so they seemed worse..  I also made the mistake of training for only a 56 mile ride and it was 56.5  it was the last .5 that threw my carefully thought out training plan in the crapper

so with the rolling hills and the few big climbs.... a road bike set up in aero would be a good idea?

I'd agree with a tri bike....
I'd say it's a fair course.

BUT, I DO think the heat/humidity was a big contributing factor to the difficulty. If we have a typical low humidity/82 degree day, I'm guessing the course difficulty factor will go down considerably.

Even on a flat/forgiving course, 95 degrees is gonna make it brutal. It was a tough week all around. I actually got minor heatstroke while out marking the run course, on my mountain bike. Just ridiculously hot.

An example: For Timberman, which had 1200 athletes in the sprint and 2000 in the 70.3, we go through 5000 lbs of ice. For Longhorn, with 1200 athletes in the sprint/oly and 950 in the Half Iron, we went through 16,000 lbs of ice!!!!!!!!!

Weather is the great equalizer....

There isn't much shade on the run either, which was a big factor too

Tri bike.  The hills are too few to do away with the benefit of aero on the flatter roads.  Gary, I agree with the hills.  The worst was the last, and the one right before it was either #2 or #3.  I think the one around mile 35ish was fairly long too.
