Looks like I will be doing the 70.3 as well, make a family trip out of it the week after. Since I live in CT the hardest part will be getting my bike there. We have plenty of hills, last summer was mild. It does stay humid here (I am near the water), never too crazy hot, especially that late in the year. I suppose I will be wearing extra layers to try and prepare.

I really need to find more hills to train on for this. I suck at hills still.

I live in Garland for 1/2 a year, not too many hills out there.

I finished Austin HIM last year after training for the hills in flat Chicago.  Thank you Spinervals!  Yes, it was killer hot, and in my opinion, hills were most difficult 30-36 (rolling upwards) then at 57.  (Even saw people walking the bike up).  By the way, that hill at mile 57 is hit twice on the run (5 and 10, I think).

And yes--that is not a typo.  The bike course was changed last year due to some road issues causing the course to be a bit longer than normal.

 Felt S75--road bike with aerobars.

Ship your bike via Fed Ex (not UPS) to Jack and Adams--LBS in Austin and a sponsor.  They had a deal last year to receive, assemble, tune-up, unassemble and ship back bikes.  I LOVED IT!

UPS was going to charge twice as much and take a few days longer to get the bikes there.  Also, be aware that you need to ship your bike down about 1 week in advance and won't have it back right after the race.

And apparently is looking for music for the official sound system... not his own personal mp3 player...

Austin's the live music capital of the world...we'll have a bunch of bands and musicians on course at Longhorn

Lone Star and Longhorn are different races, in different places

I signed up for this a few months ago and it will be my first HIM.  Sounds like I made a good choice - - sounds like a great event.

The heat shouldn't be a problem after training in Phoenix all summer - - although the humidity may get me!

The hill really isn't that bad...Unless, it's 104 degrees again

We've got some tricks up our sleeve to make the hill fun. Well, fun might be the wrong word...it'll be interesting....

Unless it crosses the finish line, I may not be able to get back up and continue on.

Don't forget, the run course is rolling hills too with one big beast.  If you suffer from allergies take pre-cautions, you run through a ragweed FOREST.
