Subject: Motion sickness while swimming freestyle

My sister (a long time runner) has some foot problems that have sidelined her for a considerable stretch. She's reverting to swimming but is suffering from motion sickness with the freestyle stroke. I offered to post the issue here to see if there are any solutions or tricks to dealing with this, so any advice would help.

Thanks,

Welshy

I've only encountered this in OWS, but ear-plugs have helped a lot.

bump

my BF has the same problem. I'd be interested to know what people know about this. I heard a woman a tri i did last fall talking about dramamine pre-race, because of the same issue.

I asked a similar question http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp... and got responses from ear plugs to something called sea bands. I going to try both and see if that helps.

I used to get mild motion sickness.  First I tried drinking peppermint oil diluted in water (purchase at Whole Foods, a suggestion from Betsy), but then I figured out I was eating too close to the swim.  Now, I give myself a good two hours from eating until the swim.  And, I make sure to hydrate (befor hand, not IN the pool! although, that's a given  ).

This only happened to me once, when I was racing in the OWS equivalent of diesel fuel.  Actually a lot of it WAS diesel fuel.  Had to switch to breastroke for about half of my 1500m.
