To try out to see if it's really more comfy than my road bike with aerobars. The problem is that I'm gonna need a pretty small tri bike. I ride a 47 cm road bike, so I can't imagine that I can be fit on a tri bike bigger than a 48 at the most.

Does anyone know of any tri shops in the Atlanta to Charlotte area that would have a tribike this small I can try out to see if I like it?

Honestly, Carolina Tri would be your best bet, but I highly doubt it. Those are pretty much special order. I do think, however, that you could get much of the benefit out of a forward-canted seat post for a lot less money. Or find someone with a small frame that may let you give it a whirl. Beth Coe at the Cleveland Street YMCA in Greenville rides a tiny (I tell her Garanimals-size) Cervelo P2C. She may be able to help you out, or at least talk to you about the difference. She replaced at Felt road bike with that, BTW.

That's what I was afraid of. I'm on a Felt Road Bike now and when I ordered it it took like 2 months and a few weeks to come in. At that rate, it could take me a year to find something I liked.

My seat post now is turned around so that my seat is forward more. But I'm still not comfortable on it in the aero position. When I ride aero, the area right above my knee- the top of my quad (or the bottom, however you look at it) is what burns like nobody's business. After talking to Barqhead this weekend and hearing how much more comfortable she is on her tribike over her road bike, I'm beginning to wonder if it's the fit on the road bike trying to make it a tri bike that's the problem. She said she feels her bike workouts in her glutes and hips. I don't feel it there at all. I feel like I've been doing all this training and I am not any faster on the bike than I was, and my other two sports have progressed.

So, I want to try a tribike to see if it possibly is my fit with aerobars and my road bike. I've been working all winter on the trainer and about 5 minutes in aero is all I can take. Shoulders get tired, neck is tired, and nether regions hurt in all kinds of ways...

I may have to shoot Beth an email and see what size her bike is...

How much money do you want to spend?

Go Tri Sports has a good lineup and great deals but they are pretty far for you to go.

Hey Susanne, While you're at Parris Island, try to find Missy Hunnicut. I'm not sure what size she rides, but it is very small. If you stay for the awards, she will probably win her age group or at least place so they will call her name out. I'll be hanging out with her group (fast people) so maybe I'll get to meet you and yours. Go Tigers!

My mate rides a 48 and he got it from Go Tri Sports. Id call Al and tell him what you are looking for I'd bet he would get it in just for you to test ride it.

Thread Revival!

I am pretty new to triathlon, but have been using BT.com to log my training for a while now.  I am heading to Shaw AFB in a few weeks, and was wondering if there is anyone who could recommend a great bike shop for a tri fit and purchase.  Thanks a lot in advance!

Welcome to the area.  Outspoken has a good selection of tri bikes and they can also do a fitting for you.  That's where I got my tri bike and I've been pleased with their service.  Harrels Bicycle World is also a great bike shop.  I bought my first and second Mtn bike from Paul.  Great shop with a friendly atmosphere.
