They did a race there in 2004. It didn't get much of a turnout. The race was well run but the expo and post race were nothing like they promised. I am intrigued by the long distance race but my schedule is jammed around that time.

I was planning on doing the gulf coast 70.3 but I dont think I will have the training under my belt to do it......so I am going to try and do this one because it is the distance between an olympic and a half.

Im a newbie as well signed up for the groovy girls tri at the end of june but thinking of watching the tri just to see how it all comes together.  Im not even ready for a tri just yet..on my second week of training having to break down and get a memebership at PAC intown just to get my swimming training in.  Landlord is taking to long to get me the key to our pool.  Need to put in some swim time for that portion of the race. Otherwise im feeling great about it coming up getting excited..heck im excited for all newbies..good luck to you all.

I joined the pac to get my swim training in. I had planned to do the beginner tri in Sulpher but got my weekends confused and was out of town. then I wanted to do the sprint up in Ruston but had a wedding in Baton Rouge that day. But I have signed up for this one and am going to go through with it. I thought I was going to miss it because i was having some stomach problems 2 weeks ago and I thought it was going to be a gall bladder issue. It sidetracked my training but hopefully i can get through the tiny 200m swim. Biking and running i think I will be ok. I've been running some 5ks since february and done a few long bike rides but the swimming still has me worried. Anyways good luck!

Current water temperature per this website is 76°F, which makes it wetsuit legal. Whether or not you  need one is up to you, but that's not that cold. I did a 500M swim yesterday in 75°F water, and it was actually very nice once you got used to it. Only one person out of a hundred wore a wetsuit.

I think thats about what i normally swim in so I don't need a wetsuit for that.

Me and the wife are in for Saturday. It's a good excuse to eat fat after. Staying in the quarter Saturday night, so probably won't be racing Sunday.

I have never done a super sprint, it will be interesting to see if I decide to drop anything (equipment-wise) from a normal sprint or oly. Suggestions welcome.

I do without gloves, sunglasses and socks for most sprints, but I would do so only if I've tried it successfully in training.

Some of the fast guys I race against also leave their clipless pedals off in favor of toe clips. Put on your running shoes in T1 and you have one less shoe change to make.
