'Salem's Lot-LOVE Stephen King

Have you read his "Dark Tower" series? I loved it - it's so bizarre and twisted. Where does he come up with this stuff?!

Yeah, liked the early books, but by the end it just seemed like he wanted to get it over with, given all that "deus ex machina" bullchit.

Since there are about 47 of them out there, you could have at least listed your top five Dune books.

Yeah, I was a bit disappointed in the ending in some ways, but still overall, it's pretty darned good.

Yea, but the original is by far the best. The prequels were pretty good though.

Sorry, I don't read a lot of fiction. If I want fiction, I'll watch Fox News. It takes less time and is far more unrealistic than anything Herbert could imagine.

The Killer Angels - Michael Shaara (fiction based on historical events, but my favorite book of all-time)

Dracula - Bram Stoker

Red Dragon - Thomas Harris

The Stranger - Albert Camus

The DaVinci Code - Dan Brown (I know I'll get flamed for this, but I don't care.)

I just realized I read almost exclusively non-fiction.

1. Pillars of the Earth - Follett

2. World Without end - Follett

3. Good Omens - Neil Gaimen and Terry Pratchett

4. Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card (sp)

5. (tbd) Just in case one of you mentions one that I really need to include. Please note that Pillars of the earth was my favorite book from a LONG time ago, far before Oprah put it on the "LIST"

My list:
1. Pillars of the Earth - Follett
2. Lord of the Rings (trilogy) - Tolkein
3. To Kill A Mockingbird - Lee
4. His Dark Materials (trilogy) - Pullman

I could probably come up with more, but I'm saving #5 for The Next Great Book.

I'm currently 80% done with World Without End, and really enjoying it. But I'm not quite sure it lives up to the first book.

Edit:  How in the world could I leave off Ice and Fire??  What's wrong with me!  Move that one to the top.

It is hard to pick five, and they probably change from day to day, but here are five I love:

Gravity's Rainbow - Thomas Pynchon
The Bushwacked Piano - Thomas McGuane
Norwood - Charles Portis
Light in August - William Faulkner
Mad God - Shaun Mason

My fifth choice is a ringer because I wrote it, but I still like it. it's available on Amazon.

Yep-- but I absolutely HATED that one. The first half was a great set up, but by the time he had the pope was parachuting out of a helicopter over the Vatican Plaza, I was reaching for the air sickness bag. And things only got worse from there.
