Let me start off by saying that everyone makes mistakes and I understand, but I am bummed that people don't correct them.

I did the Pasadena Triathlon last weekend and it was my third ever triathlon. It was a reverse sprint, and it was a really fun course.

However, here is my problem. After the swim, which was last, all competitors walked out of the pool and a race official was shouting out race numbers to which another race official punched them in a computer for your swim split and final time.

I came out of the pool and didn't hear or didn't pay close enough attention and the race official shouted out race number 140, too bad my number was 146.

When the prelim results came out at the post race event I didn't see myself on the result page.
I found out about the mix-up and emailed the race director because number 140 was a competitor that's who's combined times were greater then my overall time. The race director emailed me back saying that they would take care of it. However, the official results were posted and I am 542/552 people.

My actual time I would have been 11th overall and 3rd in my age group.

What should I do? Should I continue to email and raise hell or just move on? It was a USAT sanctioned race and I am bummed that I don't have the result for the effort I obviously put in, I mean I even have a picture of my leaving the pool with the 10th place finisher in front of me and the 12th place finisher behind me!

I am feeling like this is a learning expierence and that I will do my best to not let happen again, and hopefully I will have more chances to podium as my career continues.

Anyone have similar expierences? What did you do?

run time 20mins 38secs
bike time 28mins 02secs
swim time ???????

well I have no personal experience with tris as of yet (my first will be in May)....but if it were me and I had a PICTURE to prove it...I would certainly complain until it was corrected...it wasn't a MINOR mistake - if it was I MIGHT let it slide but GEEZE that isn't even close!

I say you deserve to get full credit for your efforts!

yeah, i'd fight for your correct position in that race. if i worked that hard and did that well, i'd want to have credit for my efforts!!!

during my last tri, my chip never recorded my time, but i had a flat and figure that it threw me right near the end, so i didn't care...

but in your situation, i'd definitely fight that one!!!!!!! i mean c'mon - you've got a photo...they can't deny THAT!!!

I would complain too, absolutely.  Bug them for a couple weeks for sure.  However, after that, just figure it's just a race.  You will do plenty more - and YOU know where you placed.  That's the important part, but it's nice to have the confirmation.

Sorry about that, that sucks.

Before you mentioned the USAT thing I was going to say don't sweat it, but those results will be posted for everyone in the nation to see, especially your local competition! Now I say bug'em.

I'd say to nicely bring it up with the RD again and send the pic to prove it. The week after a race is tough for RDs - they get a lot of emails questioning times, etc. Even with the best of intentions, it may have slipped through the cracks. Not only is s/he dealing with the racers, there's a lot of paperwork, etc to get to USAT with deadlines attached to them.

You deserve your time, recognition and ranking. Just suggesting a little patience with the RD. I can't imagine he doesn't want you to get your due.  Most people have no idea how much work there is to do after the race is over.

Seems like the RD should also be able to logically deduce that there can only by ONE number 140 in the race...get on 'em.

If you have the proof send it to the RD and move on. I'm kinda on the other side where unless this was your A race in which you trained all year and received messed up results I'd say keep on the RD. But since I'd see this type of race as more or an early season, shake out the cobwebs and have some fun, let it go and move on. I just don't see it worth getting upset, it's not like you were pimped out of a Kona slot.

First things first don't get too stressed about it, this instance of a couple of msitakes could make you enjoy the next event less, or the training less, and you don't want that.

See what you can do without having to call the SWAT team out, and see what happens.

But the most important thing is to remember what you learned, and make sure that from now on 146 is 146 and not 140.

Good job on finishing very high up there, and enjoy it, if you stop enjoying it because of something like this you lost way more than a top 15 spot.

Raising hell isn't going to do anyone any good.

Did you win a prize? If so, draw it to the attention of the organisers, if not, move on, lifes too short - spend the time you would have spent "raising hell" to do some more training

Officials make mistakes even in USAT sanctioned events
