Subject: Lake Anna Kinetic Questions
Last year I rented a wet suit from Final Kick Sports but it was one without sleeves. It is my understanding that the lake temperature is going to be so cold I'm going to need a full wet suit, a hat, and some boots. I'm starting to think this is not the Tri for me. Then again, I'm only going to be in the water for 20 minutes. I could use some opinions from you guys to help me decide.

It depends.  Are you doing the sprint or the half?  Last year the water temperature was 53 for the half and 56 for the sprint.  Usually the termperature is in the low 60's.  As far as the wet suit, I guess it depends on how well you do in cold water.  Last year I wore a full wetsuit and a neoprene hat.  The first 200 yards or so were pretty bad but then you kind of get numb.  If you're renting I would rent a full wetsuit, then wait to see what the water temperature is to determine if you need anything else.

Thanks Ernie,

I'll check and see if they rent full wet suits.

joekennedy7 - 2008-03-17 7:59 AM Thanks Ernie, I'll check and see if they rent full wet suits.

Bonzai in Falls Church rents full wetsuits, as does Riptide Swim and Tri out in Gainesville - their rental fees are the same. I'm sure you can find one.

You won't NEED a full suit, but you are definitely going to want to wear a suit.  I have worn a sleeveless at this even for the last 3 years and been fine.  Ideally you are going to want to rent a suit that fits you and that you feel comfortable in.  Don't psych yourself out and think that a full suit is a MUST HAVE.  Don't sacrifice fit.  Like you said, it's only 20 minutes.
